Neurotransmitters in hermatypic coral, Acropora spp., and its contribution to synchronous spawning during reproductive event.

Synchronous spawning as mass reproduction is well known to occur in many hermatypic corals, which is one of the mysterious life birth events. However, its contributing mechanism has not yet been clarified. This study placed focus on elucidating a neurotransmitter as endocrine signals that contribute to the synchronous spawning.

Foreign body in the maxillary sinus--possible plastic tube: a case report.

We experienced the case of a patient who had a foreign body in the maxillary sinus. The patient complained of recurrent unilateral badly smelling rhinorrhea. The computed tomography and the magnetic resonance images revealed a foreign body in the maxillary sinus.

[Fornix of vagina suspension for cystocele].

Objective: Bladder neck hypermobility causes cystocele in middle to old elderly women. We developed an easy and useful surgical technique for cystocele.

Methods: Thirteen patients with cystocele (grade 2-4) were operated by fornix of the vagina suspension.

Isolated periarteritis nodosa of the spermatic cord presenting as a scrotal mass: report of a case.

We report a 57-year-old man who visited a local hospital because of a fist-sized swelling and pain in his right scrotum. Surgically resected tissue revealed necrotizing arteritis in a small spermatic artery. As systemic symptoms for angiitis were not present, this is thought to be the second case of isolated angiitis occurring in the spermatic cord.

[Comparative susceptibility of 10 antimicrobials against Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from complicated urinary tract infection on 1992 & 1993 vs. 1994 & 1995].

The susceptibility of 10 antimicrobials against P. aeruginosa isolated from complicated UTI during 1992-1995 was determined, and the yearly trend was examined. The drug tested included 3 cephems (ceftazidime [CAZ], cefpirome [CPR], cefclidin [CFCL]), 1 monobactam (aztreonam [AZT]), 2 carbapenem (imipenem/cilastatin [IPM/CS], biapenem [BIPM]), 2 aminoglycosides (netilmicin [NTL], gentamicin [GM]) and 2 new quinolones (ofloxacin [OFLX], ciprofloxacin [CPFX]).
