Accurate height and length estimation in hospitalized children not fulfilling WHO criteria for standard measurement: a multicenter prospective study.

In hospitalized children, height should be measured. When world health organization (WHO) height measurement gold standards is impossible, the ideal height estimation technique is still unclear. We conducted an international prospective study in eight different pediatric intensive care units to assess the accuracy, precision, practicability, safety, and inter-rater reliability of 12 different height estimation techniques, based on body segment measurement extrapolation, or other calculations using previous or projected heights.

[Oral feeding of patient hospitalized for allogeneic stem cells transplantation: Guidelines from the Francophone Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (SFGM-TC)].

Given the absence of consensus on oral feeding of patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic transplantation, the ninth workshops of practice harmonization of the Francophone Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (SFGM-TC) allocated one session to address this topic, especially during the hospitalization. A questionnaire was sent to all SFGM-TC pediatric and adult centers in order to investigate oral feeding practices. The results demonstrated a large disparity among centers regarding oral feeding.

Noise and hypoxia induced temporary threshold shifts in rats studied by ABR.

Rats were exposed for 2 h either to 115 dB SPL noise, to 5% oxygen in nitrogen (hypoxia) or to both hypoxia and noise. Auditory nerve-brainstem evoked responses (ABR) to 80 dB HL clicks and threshold were recorded prior to exposure, immediately (5-10 min) after the exposure, 2 h after and 2 weeks after the exposure. The findings in each experimental animal were compared to those in the control (non-exposed) group and to those in the other groups.

Biochemical and cardiovascular measures in subjects with noise-induced hearing loss.

Reports on a potential relationship between noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and cardiovascular as well as biochemical measures are controversial. This study compares the means of certain cardiovascular and biochemical measures in subjects with NIHL with those in subjects exposed to similar occupational noise, but demonstrating normal hearing. This might indicate certain predisposing factors for NIHL.
