Background: Cutaneous Leishmaniases (CL), highly endemic in Africa and Mediterranean region, are caused by different Leishmania parasite species. Accurate species identification is crucial for effective diagnosis, treatment, and control of these diseases, but traditionally relies on DNA-based methods. High Resolution Melting analysis PCR (HRM PCR) provides rapid results and precise differentiation based on nucleotide variations.

Background: The COVID-19 has put emphasis on pivotal needs for diagnosis and surveillance worldwide, with the subsequent shortage of diagnostic reagents and kits. Therefore, it has become strategic for the countries to access diagnostics, expand testing capacity, and develop their own diagnostic capabilities and alternative rapid accurate nucleic acid diagnostics that are at lower costs. Here, we propose a visual SARS-CoV-2 detection using a one-step fast multiplex reverse transcription-PCR (RT-PCR) amplification coupled to lateral flow immunoassay detection on a PCRD device (Abingdon Health, UK).

Computer-aided drug discovery (CADD) is nurtured by late advances in big data analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) towards enhanced drug discovery (DD) outcomes. In this context, reliable datasets are of utmost importance. We herein present CidalsDB a novel web server for AI-assisted DD against infectious pathogens, namely Leishmania parasites and Coronaviruses.

Article Synopsis
  • Drug repurposing is a cost-effective method to find new treatments for Neglected Tropical Diseases like Leishmaniasis, utilizing existing FDA-approved drugs.
  • In a recent study, five out of ten predicted drug candidates showed effective anti-leishmanial properties, with Acebutolol, Prilocaine, and Phenylephrine being newly identified as potential treatments.
  • Two compounds, Dibucaine and Domperidone, demonstrated particularly low inhibitory concentrations (IC values), indicating strong antileishmanial activity without significant toxicity to host cells.

Human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV-16) is the most prevalent HPV type worldwide and in Tunisia and the major carcinogenic HPV type found in cervical precancers and cancers. Previous studies have reported that genetic diversity of HPV16-E6 oncoprotein might be associated with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia progression. In this study we aimed to investigate the prevalence of HPV-16 E6 variants in precancerous lesions in Tunisian population to assess potential correlation with disease severity.
