Objective: Ketamine is commonly used as an anesthetic and analgesic agent for procedural sedation, but there is little evidence on its current use as a prolonged continuous infusion in the PICU. We sought to analyze the use of ketamine as a prolonged infusion in critically ill children, its indications, dosages, efficacy, and safety.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical charts of patients receiving ketamine for ≥24 hours in the period 2017-2018 in our tertiary care center.

Evans syndrome (ES) is defined by the combination (either simultaneous or sequential) of immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) and autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA). When related to secondary conditions, ES may arise in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), which is frequently associated to autoimmune cytopenias (AIC). We analysed 25 patients with ES secondary to CLL, which were identified from a large series of consecutive patients with CLL, diagnosed and followed up in two institutions.

The relation between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNA load and clinical course of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is unknown. We assessed EBV DNA load by quantitative PCR at CLL presentation in mononuclear cells (MNC) of 220 prospective patients that were enrolled and followed-up in two major Institutions. In 20 patients EBV DNA load was also assessed on plasma samples.

Introduction: Splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT) is a serious complication in patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH). Mutant PNH clones can be associated with an increased risk of SVT even in the absence of overt disease, but their prevalence in non-selected SVT patients remains unknown.

Materials And Methods: Patients with objective diagnosis of SVT and without known PNH were tested for the presence of PNH clone using high-sensitivity flow cytometric analysis.
