The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) on pain, neuropathic symptoms, and other health-related metrics in patients with chronic painful peripheral neuropathy (PN) from multiple etiologies. A prospective single center observational longitudinal cohort study assessed SCS efficacy from April 2023 to May 2024, with follow-ups at 2, 4, 6, and 12 months in 19 patients suffering from the painful polyneuropathy of diverse etiologies: diabetic (DPN), idiopathic (CIAP), chemotherapy-induced (CIPN), and others. Patients were implanted with a neurostimulator (WaveWriter Alpha, Boston Scientific Corporation, Valencia, CA, USA) and percutaneous leads targeting the lower limbs (T10-T11) and, if necessary, the upper limbs (C4-C7).

The 2021 Tajogaite eruption in La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain) emitted vast volumes of lava during 85 days, which reached the ocean in several occasions at the western flank of the island. Most of these flows merged to create a primary lava delta, covering an area of 48 ha, with an additional 30 ha underwater. Here we characterize the effects of the lava-seawater interaction on the surrounding marine environment.

Cu is a vital micronutrient, but free Cu ions (Cu) in seawater, even at subnanomolar concentrations, can impede phytoplankton growth. Natural Cu complexation with organic ligands regulates Cu acquisition and, in most instances, reduces Cu concentrations below toxic thresholds. Along the Antarctic coast, the sources and sinks of Cu and its associated ligands remain poorly defined.

Monitoring for assessment of natural disasters, such as volcanic eruptions, presents a methodological challenge for the scientific community. Here, we present Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as a feasible, precise, rapid and safe tool for real time monitoring of the impacts of a volcanic event during the Cumbre Vieja eruption on La Palma Island, Spain (2021). UAV surveys with optical RGB (Red-Green-Blue), thermal and multispectral sensors, and a water sampling device, were carried out in different areas affected by the lava flow, including the upper volcanic edifice and the lava delta formed on the coastal fringe of the island.

The striatum receives dense dopaminergic projections, making it a key region of the dopaminergic system. Its dysfunction has been implicated in various conditions including Parkinson's disease (PD) and substance use disorder. However, the investigation of dopamine-specific functioning in humans is problematic as current MRI approaches are unable to differentiate between dopaminergic and other projections.
