[New biosensors for assessment of environmental toxicity based on marine luminescent bacteria].

Sixteen strains of luminescent bacteria of Vibrio and Photobacterium genera were isolated from water of the Azov and Black seas. Two strains prospective for biotesting were genetically identified as Vibrio fisher Ve-9579 and Vibrio fisheri Ve-9580 according to Russian Industrial Microorganism Collection (VKMP) classification and accepted for depositing. The isolated luminescent strains exhibited high individual sensitivity to oil derived products, heavy metal salts, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and phenol (up to the maximum concentration limit for fishery impoundments).

[Changes in the proteolytic activity of tissues during aging].

The intensity of proteolytic processes and qualitative composition of autolysis products of the brain, liver and testicle tissues of young and old rats were studied. The gel-chromatographic analysis (Sephadex G-15 and G-50) revealed no considerable amount of high-molecular peptides (1500 Da and over) before and after autolysis. The measurement of the quantity of free amino groups in the gel-chromatographic fraction after the complete acid hydrolysis has confirmed that result.

[Changes in various biochemical and physico-chemical properties of hemoglobin during its aging].

It is shown that hemoglobin senescence leads to both a decrease of amide groups in it and redistribution of the radioactive label (55Fe) in electrophoretic fractions. It is supposed that an increase of the radio-active label in highly mobile hemoglobin fractions of the "old" erythrocytes by 78 and 43% as compared to that of the "young" erythrocytes is related to the deamidation-mediate growth of the negative charge of this protein molecule or partial denaturation of its quaternary structure. The resistance of hemoglobin of the "old" erythrocytes is shown to decrease to acid tissue proteinases of the lysosomal fraction as against hemoglobin of the "young" erythrocytes.

[Amidation of blood proteins during hyperglycemia in experimental diabetes mellitus].

Rates of amidation of blood serum albumin and hemoglobin was studied in hyperglycemia developed during alloxan diabetes mellitus. Content of glucose in blood of the animals with diabetes exceeded 5.2-fold its level in blood of controls; amount of glycosylated hemoglobin was increased by 41.

[The effect of various chemical compounds and storage conditions on the rate of non-enzymatic deamidation of protein preparations].

The effect of different substances partly used as preservatives for the blood storage and at different stages of manufacturing of human blood preparations on the dynamics of nonenzymatic deamidation of commercial protein preparations and on their heat stability was being studied. Albumin and gamma-globulin preparations in the solutions of 60% glycerol, 60% ethylene glycol, 40% beta-alanine, aspartic and glutamic acids in physiological concentrations, 40% glucose and 40% sucrose after 2-hour thermal denaturation (100 degrees) were incubated under (or close to) physiological conditions (pH 7, 37 degrees) for 0.7; 14, 21, 28 and 90 days.
