Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to understand the symptom patterns and natural history of cyclic vomiting syndrome (CVS) in adults over a 6-month period using daily electronic diaries.
  • The research involved 93 enrolled patients, with 88 providing data; a significant number experienced CVS episodes, with a median of 0.6 episodes per month, lasting around 3 days on average.
  • The findings indicate variability in episode patterns and emphasize the need for more precise definitions and characterizations of CVS episodes for better understanding and management of the condition.

Background: The clinical implications of high potency synthetic opioids (HPSO) on medications for opioid use disorder (MOUDs) are not well understood. Although pharmacological interactions are plausible, the clinical significance of such interaction has not been systematically elucidated. This scoping review investigates the relationship between HPSO exposure and various MOUD treatment outcomes.

Background And Objectives: Noradrenergic dysregulation is important in the pathophysiology of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and alcohol use disorder (AUD); pharmacotherapies targeting adrenergic function have potential as treatment for comorbidity. Dexmedetomidine (sublingual film formulation-BXCL501; IGALMI) is a highly potent, selective ⍺2-adrenergic receptor agonist and may be superior to other pharmacotherapeutic approaches. A within subjects, phase 1b safety laboratory study was conducted to evaluate adverse effects of BXCL501 when combined with alcohol; BXCL501's potential efficacy was also explored.

Background: The development of alcohol use disorder (AUD) is a major concern in public health, and cognitive impairments caused by alcohol are involved in this process. Emerging neurobiological evidence suggests that donepezil, an anticholinesterase agent, may improve AUD treatment outcomes by enhancing neurocognitive functioning. Previous research has also suggested that cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) could potentially improve cognitive function and AUD treatment outcomes.

Hypomagnesaemia is associated with an increased overall mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis (CKD-5D). Mediterranean-style diet (MD), having a high magnesium content, can serve as a form of dietary magnesium supplementation. We examined whether there is a potential link between increased Mediterranean Diet score (MDS) and elevated serum magnesium (sMg) to assess its impact on reducing mortality risk in CKD-5D patients.
