All papillomaviruses encode an E2 protein and it is essential for the viral life cycle. E2 has three domains; a carboxyl-terminal DNA binding and dimerization domain, an amino-terminal protein interaction domain and a hinge region linking these two. Following homo-dimerization human papillomavirus E2 binds to four 12bp palindromic DNA sequences located in the non-coding long control region (LCR) of the viral genome.

Respiratory interventions including noninvasive ventilation, continuous positive airway pressure and high-flow nasal oxygen generated infectious aerosols may increase risk of airborne disease (SARS-CoV-2, influenza virus) transmission to healthcare workers. We developed and tested a prototype portable UV-C device to sterilize high flows of viral-contaminated air from a simulated patient source at airflow rates of up to 100 l/m. Our device consisted of a central quartz tube surrounded 6 high-output UV-C lamps, within a larger cylinder allowing recirculation past the UV-C lamps a second time before exiting the device.

Predictions on the future prevalence of myopia suggest one of the Global Burden of Disease regions will develop an epidemic like in East Asia and Singapore in Southeast Asia. This paper analyses the available evidence on prevalence of myopia in this region, concluding that the bulk of the evidence suggests that the prevalence of myopia at the end of schooling is still modest, although two papers suggest that in young adults in Thailand and Indonesia, the prevalence of myopia may be approaching levels typical of the epidemic of myopia. It also analyses an indicator of expected years of education at school entry, as well as current educational levels of adults, using data from the calculation of the UN Human Development Index.

Peptide-drug conjugates (PDCs) have recently gained significant attention for the targeted delivery of anticancer therapeutics, mainly due to their cost-effective and chemically defined production and lower antigenicity compared to ADCs, among other benefits. In this study, we designed and synthesized novel PDCs by conjugating new thiol-functionalized tubulysin analogs (tubugis) to bombesin, a peptide ligand with a relevant role in cancer research. Two tubulysin analogs bearing ready-for-conjugation thiol groups were prepared by an on-resin multicomponent peptide synthesis strategy and subsequently tested for their stand-alone anti-proliferative activity against human cancer cells, which resulted in IC values in the nanomolar range.

Background: Limited understanding of the biology predisposing certain human papillomavirus-related (HPV+) oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (OPSCCs) to relapse impedes therapeutic personalization. We aimed to identify molecular traits that distinguish recurrence-prone tumors.

Methods: 50 HPV+ OPSCCs that later recurred (cases) and 50 non-recurrent controls matched for stage, therapy, and smoking history were RNA-sequenced.
