A review of controversial issues about the terminology on male infertility and reproductive function, which is currently used, as well as proposals for updating clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of male infertility and men in infertile couples are presented in the article. An algorithm is described, the elements of which ensure referral of patients based on the possibility and timing of restoration of reproductive function, taking into account the reproductive health of a woman, as well as increasing the likelihood of successful treatment aimed at the birth of a healthy child.

Background: We organized this study in order to investigate differences in serum inflammatory profiles and circulating serum pneumoproteins between smokers with and without chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Methods: Patients aged 35-70 years with COPD and a smoking history ≥10 pack-years (cases, n=38) and 38 participants with the same smoking history without COPD (controls) were included in a comparative study conducted as part of a population-based cross-sectional study with 2,388 individuals in northwestern Russia. Cases and controls were matched for age and smoking history.

Objective: In this study, we propose a new method for evaluating the functional results based on the sizes of phosphenes that the patient drew which were then digitalized. We also describe the methodology of psychological testing and support for a deaf-blind patient.

Approach: A 59-year-old man with retinitis pigmentosa and hearing loss (clinical Usher syndrome) underwent surgery to implant the Argus II retinal prosthesis system in his right eye.
