Cystic malignant peritoneal mesothelioma of the abdominal wall. Case report.

We present the clinical observation of a female patient with cystic peritoneal malignant mesothelioma developed in the thickness of the abdominal wall. The diagnosis included several steps: tumor classification as mesothelioma, tumor differentiation from reactive mesothelial hyperplasia, establishment of the malignant nature and differentiation from other malignant peritoneal tumors. Relapse in about one year after surgery and about six months after the end of chemotherapy also claim malignancy of the tumor.

Immunohistochemical diagnosis of Krukenberg tumors.

The diagnosis of Krukenberg tumors, as in other types of metastatic tumors of unknown primary origin, can often be a challenge for clinicians. In many cases, traditional diagnostic methods are insufficient, requiring immunohistochemistry analysis for identifying the origin of metastatic tumors. In our study, we examined a total of 34 female patients with Krukenberg tumors with different sites of the primary tumor: gastric (n=18), colorectal (n=6) or breast (n=7) and tumors with unknown origin (n=3).

Incidental papillary thyroid microcarcinoma: is completion surgery required?

Background: The indications for completion surgery in patients with thyroid papillary microcarcinoma (PMC), incidentally found in thyroids removed for benign conditions, remains a subject of debate.

Methods: In a retrospective, transversal, cohort study of 187 incidental PMCs, found during histological examination of the thyroid gland in 2168 patients operated for benign thyroid conditions, we evaluated the influence of initial and completion surgery on pathological features associated to local recurrence and cancer-related mortality.

Passive transfer of collagen XVII-specific antibodies induces sustained blistering disease in adult mice.

Background: Bullous pemphigoid is a subepidermal blistering disorder associated with tissue-bound and circulating autoantibodies directed mainly to the hemidesmosomal component collagen XVII. While recapitulating the main immunopathological features of the human disease, frank skin blistering does not develop in the absence of skin rubbing in experimental pemphigoid models that have been established in neonatal mice. Moreover, due to their experimental design they only allow for short-term disease observation.

Pancreatic insulinoma. Case report and review of the literature.

Insulinoma is a rare pancreatic islet cell tumor, the most common cause of hypoglycemia related to endogenous hyperinsulinism. We present the case of an adult patient with pancreatic insulinoma. The patient presented to our clinic after prior hospitalizations in diabetes and psychiatry hospital units for repeated episodes of loss of consciousness, sweating and tonic-clonic seizures.
