Kidney disease represents a major medical and economic burden for which improved treatments are urgently needed. Emerging data have implicated Th17 cells and IL-17 signaling in the underlying pathogenesis of autoantibody-induced glomerulonephritis (AGN). However, the downstream transduction pathways mediated by IL-17 in autoimmunity are not well defined.

IL-17 is implicated in AGN and drives pathology in a kidney-intrinsic manner via renal tubular epithelial cells (RTECs). Nonetheless, downstream signaling mechanisms provoking kidney pathology are poorly understood.

Here, we aimed to explore the lncRNA-miRNA axis in Hepatitis C and B virus (HCV and HBV) infected HCC to investigate the molecular mechanism of chemoresistance and to identify a potential therapeutic target for HCC. The small RNA transcriptome analysis followed by qRT-PCR validation with the liver tissues of both HCV and HBV infected HCC patients revealed that miR-424-5p, miR-136-3p, miR-139-5p, miR-223-3p, and miR-375-3p were the most downregulated miRNAs in HCC compared to normal (log fold change ≤-1.

A sequencing batch reactor (SBR) and modified SBR cycle-step-feed process (SSBR) configuration are studied in this work to effectively treat municipal wastewater while simultaneously removing nitrogen and phosphorus. To control the amount of dissolved oxygen in an SBR, three axiomatic control strategies (proportional integral (PI), fractional proportional integral (FPI), and fuzzy logic controllers) are presented.
