Patients with COVID-19 may develop a hypercoagulable state due to tissue and endothelial injury, produced by an unbalanced immune response. Therefore, an increased number of thromboembolic events has been reported in these patients. The aim of this study is to investigate the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in COVID-19 patients, their role in the development of thrombosis and their relationship with the severity of the disease.

crystallization is a rare event in nature. Recent advances that have made use of heterologous overexpression can promote the intracellular formation of protein crystals, but new tools are required to detect and characterize these targets in the complex cell environment. The present work makes use of Mask R-CNN, a convolutional neural network (CNN)-based instance segmentation method, for the identification of either single or multi-shaped crystals growing in living insect cells, using conventional bright field images.

Introduction: Dysgenesis of the corpus callosum is present in neurodevelopmental disorders and coexists with hydrocephalus in several human congenital syndromes. The mechanisms that underlie the etiology of congenital hydrocephalus and agenesis of the corpus callosum when they coappear during neurodevelopment persist unclear. In this work, the mechanistic relationship between both disorders is investigated in the hyh mouse model for congenital hydrocephalus, which also develops agenesis of the corpus callosum.

Time-resolved crystallography enables the visualization of protein molecular motion during a reaction. Although light is often used to initiate reactions in time-resolved crystallography, only a small number of proteins can be activated by light. However, many biological reactions can be triggered by the interaction between proteins and ligands.

Unlabelled: Aging and chronic heart failure (CHF) are responsible for the temporal inhomogeneity of the electrocardiogram (ECG) repolarization phase. Recently, some short period repolarization-dispersion parameters have been proposed as markers of acute decompensation and of mortality risk in CHF patients. Some important differences in repolarization between sexes are known, but their impact on ECG markers remains unstudied.
