The role of patient-related factors in the implementation of a multimodal home-based rehabilitation intervention after discharge from inpatient geriatric rehabilitation (GeRas): a qualitative process evaluation.

Background: Structured aftercare programs are implemented to facilitate the transition from rehabilitation centers to patients' home environments. Taking the program GeRas as an example, this paper aims to evaluate the influence of patient-related factors on the implementation of the geriatric aftercare program GeRas from patients' and providers' perspectives.

Methods: To capture patients' and providers' perspectives, qualitative interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview guide.

The Refeeding Syndrome revisited: you can only diagnose what you know.

Background/objectives: The Refeeding Syndrome (RFS) is a serious complication in patients receiving nutrition support after a period of severe malnutrition. We frequently recognize and diagnose the RFS due to increased awareness. Thus, we observe that many physicians do not know the RFS and that it is rarely diagnosed.

Prevalence of Risk Factors for the Refeeding Syndrome in Older Hospitalized Patients.

Objectives: The incidence of refeeding syndrome (RFS) in older patients is not well-known. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of known risk factors for RFS in older individuals during hospitalization at geriatric hospital departments.

Design And Setting: 342 consecutive older participants (222 females) who admitted at acute geriatric hospital wards were included in a cross-sectional study.

Risk factors of refeeding syndrome in malnourished older hospitalized patients.

Background & Aims: Despite the high prevalence of malnutrition among older hospitalized persons, it is unknown how many of these malnourished patients are at risk of developing the refeeding syndrome (RFS). In this study, we sought to compare the prevalence and severity of malnutrition among older hospitalized patients with prevalence of known risk factors of RFS.

Methods: This cross-sectional multicenter-study investigated older participants who were consecutively admitted to the geriatric acute care ward.
