Cognitive Health After Cerebellar Stroke: Potential Link Between Socio-Educational Status and Memory Outcome.

While deficits in episodic memory have been noted following cerebellar damage, there is a lack of research systematically exploring the socio-demographic and cognitive profiles of patients with such impairments. This study aimed to differentiate between chronic-phase cerebellar stroke patients with and without verbal episodic memory deficits, and to determine whether those with deficits exhibit distinct socio-demographic and clinical profiles, thereby identifying potential factors associated with these impairments. Data from 15 cerebellar stroke patients in the CEREBEMO cohort were analyzed, with participants categorized into two groups based on verbal episodic memory performance: deficits (n = 8) and no deficits (n = 7).

Infective endocarditis is a severe but rarely diagnosed disease, characterized by the presence of bacterial infection at the level of the cardiac valves. Although the incidence of the disease is very low, the consequences are severe and the prognosis is very poor, outlining a high mortality rate among cases. The present report highlights the case of a 7-year-old dog presented with abrupt changes in the respiratory pattern, obtunded and in lateral recumbency.

In the last decades, researchers have been developing bioresorbable stents (BRS) to overcome the long-term complications of drug-eluting stents (DES). However, BRS technology still presents challenging limitations in terms of manufacturing, materials, or mechanical properties. At this juncture, companies have developed ultrathin DES that may further improve the efficacy and safety profile of traditional DES by reducing the risk of target-lesion and target-vessel failures until BRS are developed.

Moderating effects of uric acid and sex on cognition and psychiatric symptoms in asymmetric Parkinson's disease.

Background: Non-motor symptoms are an important early feature of Parkinson's disease (PD), encompassing a variety of cognitive and psychiatric symptoms that seem to manifest differently depending on motor symptom asymmetry. Different factors, such as uric acid (UA) and sex, seem to influence cognitive and psychiatric expression in PD, however their interplay remains to be better understood.

Methods: Participants taking part in the Parkinson's Progression Marker Initiative were studied based on the side of motor symptom asymmetry and sex.

A Novel Clinical Nomogram for Predicting Overall Survival in Patients with Emergency Surgery for Colorectal Cancer.

Background: Long-term survival after emergency colorectal cancer surgery is low, and its estimation is most frequently neglected, with priority given to the immediate prognosis. This study aimed to propose an effective nomogram to predict overall survival in these patients.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively studied 437 patients who underwent emergency surgery for colorectal cancer between 2008 and 2019, in whom we analyzed the clinical, paraclinical, and surgical parameters.
