Chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and DNA damage are observed in schistosomiasis and premature aging. However, the potential of these events to trigger stress-induced premature senescence (SIPS) throughout schistosomiasis progression remains overlooked, especially in response to the first-line pharmacological treatment. Thus, we investigated the relationship between oxidative stress and SIPS sentinel markers in untreated Schistosoma mansoni-infected mice and those receiving praziquantel (Pz)-based reference treatment.

Shearless and periodic attractors in the dissipative Labyrinthic map.

The Labyrinthic map is a two-dimensional area-preserving map that features a robust transport barrier known as the shearless curve. In this study, we explore a dissipative version of this map, examining how dissipation affects the shearless curve and leads to the emergence of quasi-periodic or chaotic attractors, referred to as shearless attractors. We present a route to chaos of the shearless attractor known as the Curry-Yorke route.

Discovery of a new eugenol-benznidazole hybrid active against different evolutive stages of Trypanosoma cruzi.

Chagas disease (CD) is a life-threatening illness caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi and there are only two drugs currently available for pharmacotherapy of this neglected infection (benznidazole and nifurtimox). Their limited efficacy in chronic phase of the disease, problems of toxicity and the growing resistance by the protozoan are directly associated to high rates of drug discontinuation by the patients.
