Eicosanoid formation was determined after the addition of 14C-arachidonic acid and stimulation with calcium ionophore A23187. 5-ASA given intra-rectally caused a non-selective suppression of prostanoids, leukotrienes and hydroxy-eicosatetraenoic acids.
