Background: The therapeutic armamentarium for heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) remains notably constrained. A factor contributing to this problem could be the scarcity of in vitro models for HFpEF, which hinders progress in developing new therapeutic strategies. Here, we aimed at developing a novel, comorbidity-inspired, human, in vitro model for HFpEF.

G4mismatch: Deep neural networks to predict G-quadruplex propensity based on G4-seq data.

G-quadruplexes are non-B-DNA structures that form in the genome facilitated by Hoogsteen bonds between guanines in single or multiple strands of DNA. The functions of G-quadruplexes are linked to various molecular and disease phenotypes, and thus researchers are interested in measuring G-quadruplex formation genome-wide. Experimentally measuring G-quadruplexes is a long and laborious process.

Effects of a combined intervention for treating severely obese prepubertal children.

Introduction: Obesity has become the most common modern pediatric chronic disease. Early prevention and treatment of childhood and adolescent obesity is mandated. Severe obesity [body mass index (BMI) percentile >98%] reduces the likelihood of the multidisciplinary childhood obesity program to succeed, suggesting, most probably, that a more intense program is needed to treat severely obese children.

Comparison of isoniazid monoresistant tuberculosis with drug-susceptible tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis.

Limited data exist about the clinical characteristics of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB) isolates with resistance to isoniazid (IZN). We describe the demographic and clinical characteristics and risk factor information for persons with IZN monoresistant (resistant to isoniazid) TB compared with drug-susceptible TB and multidrug-resistant (MDR) TB. From 2002 to 2009, 590 cases of TB were diagnosed.
