Background: The immature lungs of very preterm infants are exposed to supraphysiologic oxygen, contributing to bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a chronic lung disease that is the most common morbidity of prematurity. While the microbiota significantly influences neonatal health, the relationship between the intestinal microbiome, particularly micro-eukaryotic members such as fungi and yeast, and lung injury severity in newborns remains unknown.

Results: Here, we show that the fungal microbiota modulates hyperoxia-induced lung injury severity in very low birth weight premature infants and preclinical pseudohumanized and altered fungal colonization mouse models.

Background: Physical activity, such as running, protects against cardiovascular disease and obesity but can induce oxidative stress. Athletes often consume antioxidants to counteract the overproduction of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species during exercise. , particularly its phycocyanin content, activates the Nrf2 pathway, stimulating antioxidant responses.

The present research evaluated the effect of selected strains with anti- properties on the characteristics of traditional soft-ripened cheeses produced in two different seasons. Physicochemical, microbiological, texture, volatile compound, and sensory evaluations were performed on the cheeses after 60 days of ripening. The inoculation with protective cultures of selected LAB did not negatively affect the physicochemical parameters of the cheeses.

Novel ionic liquid catalysts comprising terephthalate anions are capable of promoting the neutral hydrolysis of relatively large flake sizes of poly(ethylene terephthalate) at 0.5 mol% loading (200 °C, 4 h, 94% yield) without either attendant product inhibition or product contamination by protonated catalyst. Catalysts with large, lipophilic phosphonium cations outperform more polar variants.
