Unlabelled: The development and course of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are significantly influenced by inflammation and oxidative stress. Antioxidant therapy is a promising therapeutic option to enhance the clinical results of these individuals in this particular scenario. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of curcumin, with or without piperine, on cytokines, fecal calprotectin (CalF), and oxidative stress enzymatic and non-enzymatic indicators in patients with IBD.

N, N'-disubstituted Ureas as Novel Antiplatelet Agents: Synthesis, Pharmacological Evaluation and In Silico Studies.

Introduction: Thrombotic disorders are among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Drugs used in the prevention and treatment of atherothrombosis have pharmacokinetic limitations and adverse effects such as hemorrhagic conditions, highlighting the importance of developing more effective antiplatelet agents. ethod: In this work, we synthesized N,N'-disubstituted ureas 3a-3j and evaluated their antiplatelet profiles through in vitro, ex vivo, and in silico studies.

Novel Ru(II)-bipyridine/phenanthroline-lapachol complexes as potential anti-cancer agents.

For the first time, we herein report on the syntheses of two new Ru(II)/bipyridine/phenanthroline complexes containing lapachol as ligand: complex (1), [Ru (bipy)(Lap)]PF and complex (2), [Ru(Lap)(phen)]PF, where bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine and ph en = 1,10-phenanthroline; Lap = lapachol (2-hydroxy-3-(3-methylbut-2-en-1- yl)naphthalene-1,4-dione). The complexes were synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductivity, mass spectrometry, ultraviolet-visible and infrared spectroscopies, nuclear magnetic resonance (H, C), and single crystal X-ray diffraction, for complex (2). In addition, in vitro cytotoxicity was tested against six cancer cells: A549 (lung carcinoma); DU-145 (human prostate carcinoma); HepG2 (human hepatocellular carcinoma), PC-3 (human prostate adenocarcinoma); MDA-MB-231 (human breast adenocarcinoma); Caco-2 (human colorectal adenocarcinoma), and against two non-cancer cells, FGH (human gingival normal fibroblasts) and PNT-2 (prostate epithelial cells).

Impact of Camera Deviation on Penile Curvature Assessment Using 2D Pictures.

Background: An accurate curvature assessment (CA) is required in the decision-making process for patients with Peyronie's disease. In-office CA following induced erection is the gold standard for CA, although penile photography is commonly used due to its convenience. Camera deviations during 2D image acquisition might affect CA accuracy.

Evaluation of iron, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium in oral hospital diets.

Background & Aims: Many trace elements are nutrients essential to humans, acting in the metabolism as constituents or as enzymatic co-factors. The iron, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium contents of hospital diets (regular, blend and soft) and of oral food complement (OFC) were determined, evaluating the adequacy of each element in relation to the nutritional recommendations (DRIs) and the percent contribution alone and with OFC.

Methods: Duplicate samples were taken of six daily meals and of the OFC on two non-consecutive days from a hospital in Belo Horizonte (MG, Brazil) in May and September of 2010 and January of 2011.
