Background: In recent years, the importance of telemedicine has increased significantly. Especially in the field of echocardiography, virtual reality glasses offer the possibility of real-time data transmission without restrictions in the examination process. In particular, the care of critically ill newborns with suspected CHD might be improved by allowing a specialized paediatric cardiologist to remotely guide an echocardiographic examination.

Risk assessment in pediatric myocarditis is challenging, particularly when left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is preserved. This study aimed to evaluate LV myocardial deformation using speckle-tracking echocardiography (STE)-derived longitudinal +strain (LS) and assessed its diagnostic and prognostic value in children with myocarditis. Retrospective STE-derived layer-specific LV LS analysis was performed on echocardiograms from patients within the multicenter, prospective registry for pediatric myocarditis "MYKKE".

Cardiac tamponade can be a life-threatening condition due to the high variability of clinical symptoms and the associated risk of rapid hemodynamic deterioration. Therefore, accurate diagnosis followed by immediate intervention is necessary. Common clinical features of cardiac tamponade are pulsus paradoxus, tachycardia, elevated jugular venous pressure and hypotension; however, although these can be indicative of cardiac tamponade they are non-specific.

Study Objective: To use an existing database from a large cohort study with follow-up as long as 5.5 years to assess the extended prognosis of patients who survived their hospitalizations for severe acute respiratory failure (ARF).

Design, Setting, And Patients: Secondary analysis of an inception cohort of 1,722 patients with ARF requiring mechanical ventilation from five major medical centers who were entered into the prospective Study to Understand Prognoses and Preferences for Outcomes and Risks of Treatment.

In a clinical and roentgenographical follow-up study in 35 children, who had suffered a fracture of the condylar process of the lower jaw, the following observations were made on the average 61 months after conservative treatment: The clinical outcome ranged from "satisfactory function" to "restitutio ad integrum". Best results were achieved after unilateral displaced fractures, while only few children showed a "restitutio ad integrum" after bilateral fractures or/and after fracture dislocations. In children, who were less than 8 years old, the results were much better than in older ones.
