The statement 'man is what he eats' was coined by Ludwig Feuerbach (1804-1872), thus emphasizing the worldliness of human nature as a challenge to the general concentration on the life after and the religious belief of his time. Both views surely reflect only one side of the truth, since the intake of food not only grants man his material survival, but offers him also values of culture, friendship, and of partaking in the divine, for which he strives in his innermost heart.
