Stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) is a potential therapeutic target for Parkinson's and related neurodegenerative diseases. SCD inhibition ameliorates neuronal toxicity caused by aberrant α-synuclein, a lipid-binding protein implicated in Parkinson's disease. Its inhibition depletes monounsaturated fatty acids, which may modulate α-synuclein conformations and membrane interactions.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe stability of the hydrogen molecule interacting with the environment according to the balanced gain and loss energy scheme was studied. We determined the properties of the molecule taking into account all electronic interactions, the parameters of the Hamiltonian being computed by the variational method. The interaction of the hydrogen molecule with the environment was modeled parametrically (γ) by means of the non-Hermitian, [Formula: see text]-symmetric Hamiltonian.

New stable phase thorium decahydride Fm3̅ m-ThH, a high-temperature superconductor with T up to 241 K (-32 °C), critical field H up to 71 T, and superconducting gap Δ of 52 meV at 80-100 GPa, is predicted by evolutionary algorithm USPEX. Another phase, P2/ c-ThH, is found to be a superconductor with T of 62 K. Analysis of the superconducting state was performed within Eliashberg formalism, and H( T), Δ( T), and T( P) functions with a jump in the specific heat at critical temperature were calculated.

We have shown that the value of Coulomb pseudopotential (μ*) for HS ([T] = 36 K and p = 112 GPa) is anomalously high. The numerical results give the limitation from below to μ* that is equal to 0.
