Early (1 hour) post-operative parathyroid hormone (PTH) measurement predicts hypocalcaemia after thyroidectomy: a prospective case-control single-institution study.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy of parathyroid hormone 1-hour assay for the early prediction of hypoparathyroidism after thyroidectomy. Candidates for total, subtotal, completion thyroidectomy or lobectomy were entered into the study. Pre- and postoperative calcium and parathyroid hormone (1 hour and postoperative day 1 after thyroidectomy) levels and clinical hypocalcaemia were recorded.

Laparoscopic intracorporal colorectal sutured anastomosis using the Radius Surgical System in a phantom model.

Background: The Radius Surgical System (RSS) is a manipulator with additional degrees of freedom to enhance the dexterity of laparoscopic suturing. Our aim was to determine the feasibility and potentially added value of laparoscopic intracorporal sutured colorectal anastomosis (RSS) compared with suturing with conventional laparoscopic instruments (CLI).

Methods: A total of 72 colorectal anastomoses and 30 single sutures using RSS and CLI were performed in the study.

This study aimed to compare the performance of laparoscopic suturing tasks with the use of the Radius Surgical System and CLIs, respectively.

Methods: Five experienced laparoscopic surgeons performed laparoscopic surgical tasks in a training box.

Ergonomics with the use of curved versus straight laparoscopic graspers during rectosigmoid resection: results of a multiprofile comparative study.

Background: A detailed ergonomic comparison of motions and muscular activity in the left upper extremity using a laparoscopic straight or curved grasper in rectosigmoid resection is presented.

Methods: The study had two parts: experimental and clinical. In the experiment part, 30 laparoscopic sigmoid resections were performed under animal organ phantom conditions.

Skeletal muscle metastases from renal cell carcinoma: a case report.

In this paper, we describe a case of a 73-year old female with late skeletal muscle metastases from a clear-type renal cell carcinoma 8 years after total nephrectomy. The metastases were located in the right femoral quadriceps, in the sartorius muscle and adductor magnus muscle. A full clinical work-up was performed with blood examinations, radiological and pathological assessment.
