Adding noise to a system can 'improve' its dynamic behaviour, for example, it can increase its response or signal-to-noise ratio. The corresponding phenomenon, called stochastic resonance, has found numerous applications in physics, neuroscience, biology, medicine and mechanics. Replacing stochastic excitations with high-frequency ones was shown to be a viable approach to analysing several linear and nonlinear dynamic systems.

A popliteal artery aneurysm is a rare disease and therefore it seems currently important to investigate peculiarities of surgical treatment of this pathology. Our study included a total of 60 patients (62 limbs) operated on for popliteal artery aneurysms with various complications. In order to assess the obtained findings the patients were subdivided into 3 groups depending on emergency of rendering surgical care.

Ours was a retrospective study including a total of 110 patients who endured 57 femoropopliteal (distal) and 54 femorotibial bypasses by means of both an autovein and a xenograft used as a shunt. The indications for reconstructive operation in the majority of cases was critical ischaemia induced by an atherosclerotic lesion of the femoropoplitealtibial segment corresponding to type D according to the TASC II classification.

Variability was evaluated by day, night and diurnal SBP and DBP according to the results of daily monitoring of blood pressure, as well as intra-individual (short-term) and visit-to-visit blood pressure variability (seven consecutive days) (medium-term).

The method has been developed for the quantitative determination of barium, lead, and antimony in the targets depending on the gunshot distance.
