Aim: To quantify and compare longitudinal thickness changes of the ganglion cell complex (GCC) and the choroid in patients with different patterns of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) progression.

Methods: Retrospective cohort analysis of anonymized data from participants aged 50y or more and diagnosed with early/intermediate AMD in at least one eye (with no evidence of advanced AMD). A total of 64 participants were included from the Instituto de Retina de Lisboa (IRL) study (IPL/2022/MetAllAMD_ESTeSL) and divided into 4 groups according to the Rotterdam classification for AMD.

Postnatal establishment of enteric metabolic, host-microbial and immune homeostasis is the result of precisely timed and tightly regulated developmental and adaptive processes. Here, we show that infection with the invasive enteropathogen Typhimurium results in accelerated maturation of the neonatal epithelium with premature appearance of antimicrobial, metabolic, developmental, and regenerative features of the adult tissue. Using conditional Myd88-deficient mice, we identify the critical contribution of immune cell-derived mediators.

The prevalence of traumatic dental injuries (TDI) in patients with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) remains unclear. Given these discrepancies, an updated review of the evidence on the risk of TDI in patients with ASD is essential. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the prevalence of TDI in patients with ASD and compare it to that in neurotypical patients.

Article Synopsis
  • New tetrakis Eu and Gd β-diketonate complexes with benzimidazolium as a counterion were synthesized using a one-pot method, and one specific complex was incorporated into a PMMA matrix showing excellent photonic features.
  • Characterization techniques like ESI-MS, FTIR, and X-ray diffraction were used to analyze the complexes, revealing unique intermolecular interactions and stability of the PMMA-doped material at high temperatures.
  • The study highlighted that the materials exhibited strong photoluminescence with significant red emission when exposed to various UV wavelengths and sunlight, suggesting their potential as efficient light-converting molecular devices.

This study describes a 3D fused deposition modeling (FDM) printing process using a graphene-impregnated polylactic acid (G-PLA) filament to create a new type of rigid, plastic, nonconductive, and anticorrosion layer. Therefore, the possibility of 3D printing a plastic layer using FDM methods is demonstrated herein. A commercial magnet such as N35 NdFeB can be used to produce an efficient shielding film by additive manufacturing.
