Objective: We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) in gastric cancer patients treated with second-line ramucirumab plus paclitaxel.

Carcinoembryonic antigen-related cell adhesion molecule 6 (CEACAM6) plays an important role in lung cancer progression. Here, we examined the therapeutic efficacy of CEACAM6 gene silencing using an siRNA delivery platform targeting the acidic tumour microenvironment in a lung adenocarcinoma xenograft mouse model. An siRNA delivery vector was constructed by tethering the peptide nucleic acid form of an siRNA targeting CEACAM6 (siCEACAM6) to a peptide with a low pH-induced transmembrane structure (pHLIP) to transport siRNAs across the plasma membrane.

Previously, we developed a JL1 mouse monoclonal antibody that specifically recognizes the leukemic cells of T, B, and myeloid lineages, but not the peripheral blood cells and pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells. Here, we identified that JL1 mAb recognized a specific epitope of human CD43 and validated its potential as an anti-leukemic targeting agent. After the comprehensive screening of JL1 Ag in the human thymocyte cDNA library, multiple fusion gene constructs encoding human CD43 were generated to identify its specific epitope to JL1 antibody.

Using an EZ-Step MRSA rapid kit, a novel screening test for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) that detects penicillin-binding protein 2a, 34 of 36 MRSA-positive clinical blood culture samples were positive on direct testing (sensitivity, 94.4%), whereas 21 of 21 methicillin-susceptible S. aureus-positive samples were negative (specificity, 100%).

The effects of buffer, NaCl, EDTA, and urea on the retrieval of CD4 and CD8 antigens in formaldehyde-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues with a microwave pressure-cooker were evaluated. The optimal retrieval conditions were found to be borate buffer at pH 8 containing 1 mM NaCl and 1 mM EDTA. Urea was found to be less effective.

Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL) is a lymphoid neoplasm with a low frequency of malignant tumor cells, known as Hodgkin and Reed-Sternberg (H-RS) cells, in a background of mixed cellular infiltrates. Despite extensive studies on H-RS cells, the molecular mechanisms of their growth and regulation have remained uncertain for a long period.
