Patients with estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer undergoing continuous adjuvant hormone therapy often experience delayed recurrence with tamoxifen use, potentially causing adverse effects. However, the lack of biomarkers hampers patient selection for extended endocrine therapy. This study aimed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying delayed recurrence and identify biomarkers.

Methods: From September to November 2021, an online survey was conducted regarding the preferred resection methods for colorectal polyps, and responses were compared with the international guidelines.
Results: Among 246 respondents, those with <4 years, 4-9 years, and ≥10 years of experience in colonoscopy practices accounted for 25.
Background/aims: Although gastrointestinal endoscopy (GIE) is a major contributor to the carbon footprint of national healthcare, the amount of medical waste generated by GIE procedures is not reported in South Korea. This study aimed to measure the amount of medical waste generated from GIE procedures in South Korea.
Methods: We conducted a 5-day audit of medical waste generated during GIEs at seven hospitals.
Background: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) needs careful differentiation from other cardiomyopathies. Current guidelines recommend genetic testing, but genetic data on differential diagnoses and their relation with clinical outcomes in HCM are still lacking. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of genetic variants and the proportion of other cardiomyopathies in patients with suspected HCM in Korea and compare the outcomes of HCM according to the presence of sarcomere gene mutation.

This study aimed to assess whether earlier tricuspid valve (TV) surgery provides a survival benefit in patients with moderate to severe TR who are considered at low to intermediate risk of adverse clinical or surgical outcomes.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 10 016 patients diagnosed with moderate to severe TR between 2008 and 2020.
Background: Oral sulfate tablets (OSTs) are bowel preparation agents that combine oral sulfate solution and simethicone. This study compared the efficacy, tolerability, and safety of OST compared to 2 L-polyethylene glycol plus ascorbic acid (2 L-PEG/ASC).
Methods: This prospective, randomized, controlled, single-blinded, multicenter, noninferiority trial enrolled 211 healthy adults who underwent colonoscopy between May 2020 and September 2022 at 13 university hospitals.
Transgenic tobacco plant expressed EpCAM-Fc fusion proteins to induce in vivo immune responses producing anti-EpCAM antibodies inhibiting human colorectal cancer cell invasion and migration. Plant is emerging as a promising alternative to produce valuable immunotherapeutic vaccines. In this study, we examined the in vivo anti-cancer efficacy of epidermal cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM)-Fc and EpCAM-FcK fusion proteins produced in transgenic plants as colorectal cancer vaccine candidates.

Glioma, a type of brain tumor, is influenced by mechanical forces in its microenvironment that affect cancer progression. However, our understanding of the contribution of compression and its associated mechanisms remains limited. The objective of the present study was to create an environment in which human brain glioma H4 cells experience pressure and thereby investigate the compressive mechanosensors and signaling pathways.

Aims: Patients with moderate aortic stenosis (AS) show a poor prognosis if they have high-risk features. We investigated herein the incremental prognostic value of left ventricular (LV) and left atrial (LA) strain in patients with moderate AS.
Methods And Results: In a cohort of 923 patients with moderate AS (median age 74 years, men 55%, aortic valve area 1.
Background: MicroRNAs act as oncogenes or tumor suppressors in various cancers. The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays an important role in tumor cell progression and survival.
Methods: MicroRNA expressions were evaluated by using NanoString nCounter assay, qRT-PCR and in situ hybridization.
We have investigated the common solvent-based emulsion composed of polystyrene (PS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) solutions in tetrahydrofuran in the presence of PS--PMMA diblock copolymers. The stabilization effect of the diblock was determined visually and by confocal laser scanning microscopy at various phase volume fractions, concentrations, and compositions of the copolymer. The behavior of PS--PMMA in each homopolymer solution was studied with static and dynamic light scattering.

Purpose: The study was conducted to develop a customized diet education program using mobile instant messenger for people undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). Our goal was to examine the program's effects on diet-related self-efficacy, dietary self-care compliance, and physiological indices (hemoglobin, albumin, potassium, and phosphorus).
Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pre-post-test design.
Sepsis has a high mortality rate and leads to multi-organ failure, including lung injury. Inactive rhomboid protease family protein (iRhom2) has been identified as accountable for the release of TNF-α, a crucial mediator in the development of sepsis. This study aimed to evaluate the role of iRhom2 in sepsis and sepsis-induced acute lung injury (ALI).

Preeclampsia (PE) is a hypertensive disorder of pregnancy with various clinical symptoms. However, traditional markers for the disease including high blood pressure and proteinuria are poor indicators of the related adverse outcomes. Here, we performed systematic proteome profiling of plasma samples obtained from pregnant women with PE to identify clinically effective diagnostic biomarkers.

More than half of patients with AHA cannot identify underlying disorders. The remaining patients are associated with malignancies, autoimmune diseases, skin diseases, infections, and medications.

In this external validation study, we sought to assess the performance of an AI-ECG algorithm for detecting HCM in diverse international cohorts.
Methods And Results: A convolutional neural network-based AI-ECG algorithm was developed previously in a single-centre North American HCM cohort (Mayo Clinic).
: The majority of patients who undergo hip fracture surgery do not recover their former level of physical function; hence, it is essential to establish a specific rehabilitation strategy for maximal functional recovery of patients after a hip fracture. Knowing which indicators of physical function in hip fracture patients have a significant impact on the decision regarding the place or timing of discharge would make it possible to plan and prepare for discharge as soon as possible. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between physical function and discharge destination for older adult patients with hip fracture.
