Although primary care has been recognized as an essential element of the healthcare system, the primary healthcare of Korea has not been highly valued. Listening to the voices of physicians who are engaged in primary care should be the first step for improving the level of primary care in Korea. In this study, we conducted a questionnaire survey of general internists to investigate their perspectives regarding primary care, and which included the evaluation of current primary care, perception of the five, key attributes of primary care, and their opinions regarding the management system of chronic diseases.

New halogen/nitrogen dual-doped graphenes (X/N-G) with thermally tunable doping levels are synthesized via the thermal reduction of graphite oxide (GO) with stepwise-pyrolyzed ionic liquids. The doping process of halogen and nitrogen into the graphene lattice proceeds via substitutional or covalent bonding through the physisorption or chemisorption of in situ pyrolyzed dopant precursors. The doping process is performed by heating to 300-400 °C of ionic liquid, and the chemically assisted reduction of GO is facilitated by ionic iodine, resulting in I/N-G materials possessing about three and two orders of magnitude higher conductivity (∼22,200 S m(-1)) and charge carrier density (∼10(21) cm(-3)), compared to those of thermally reduced GO.

Surface-modified titanium (Ti) samples with hydroxyapatite (HAp) and heparin (Hep)-bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) complex (Ti/HAp/Hep/BMP-2) were prepared, and their efficacies on the enhancements of bone formation and osseointegration in vitro and in vivo were examined as compared to Ti/HAp and Ti/Hep/BMP-2. The modified surfaces were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and contact angle goniometry. In vitro studies revealed that MG-63 human osteosarcoma cell lines grown on Ti/HAp/Hep/BMP-2 increased the amounts of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, calcium deposition and the levels of OCN mRNA gene expression as compared to those grown on Ti/HAp, Ti/Hep/BMP-2 or pristine Ti.

This study aims to estimate the volume of unnecessarily utilized hospital outpatient services in Korea and quantify the total cost resulting from the inappropriate utilization. The analysis included a sample of 27,320,505 outpatient claims from the 2009 National Inpatient Sample database. Using the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), patients were considered to have received 'unnecessary hospital outpatient utilization' if they had a CCI score of 0 and were concurrently admitted to hospital for treatment of a single chronic disease - hypertension (HTN), diabetes mellitus (DM), or hyperlipidemia (HL) - without complication.

Lignin was isolated from the residue of bioethanol production with oak wood via alkaline and catalyzed organosolv treatments at ambient temperature to improve the purity of lignin for the materials application. The isolated lignins were analyzed for their chemical composition by nitrobenzene oxidation method and their functionality was characterized via wet chemistry method, element analysis, (1)H NMR, GPC and FTIR-ATR. The isolated lignin by acid catalyzed organosolv treatment (Acid-OSL) contained a higher lignin content, aromatic proton, phenolic hydroxyl group and a lower nitrogen content that is more reactive towards chemical modification.

Ovarian cancer is the seventh most common cancer in the world and the fifth most common cause of death from cancer; it is responsible for over half of all deaths related to gynecological cancers. The presence of lymphatic metastasis is an important prognostic factor in ovarian cancer. Nodal metastases to the pelvic and the para-aortic lymph nodes are common, particularly in an advanced of the disease (stages III-IV).

Anomalous diffusion induced by enhancement of memory.

Phys Rev E Stat Nonlin Soft Matter Phys

July 2014

We introduced simple microscopic non-Markovian walk models which describe the underlying mechanism of anomalous diffusions. In the models, we considered the competitions between randomness and memory effects of previous history by introducing the probability parameters. The memory effects were considered in two aspects: one is the perfect memory of whole history and the other is the latest memory enhanced with time.
