Acid adaptation in can induce antimicrobial resistance (AMR), posing challenges to global public health. We investigated the effects of acid adaptation on antimicrobial susceptibility, gene expression, zeta potential, and the outer membrane (OM) properties of NCCP 13719. The acid-adapted (AA) strain exhibited increased resistance to multiple antimicrobials, with minimum inhibitory concentrations for colistin and polymyxin B increasing eight- and two-fold, respectively.

This study introduces a novel method for the fabrication of concave microwells involving water vapor permeation through polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). This method leverages the exceptional water vapor permeability of PDMS to enable a scalable and cost-effective fabrication process, addressing the limitations of existing techniques such as photolithography that are resource-intensive and complex. PDMS is more permeable to water vapor than to other gas molecules, resulting in the formation of microwells.

The detoxification process of transforming arsenite (As(III)) to arsenate (As(V)) through bacterial oxidation presents a potent approach for bioremediation of arsenic-polluted soils in abandoned mines. The ecological dynamics of particle-attached bacteria (PAB) were observed through changes in the core phytoplankton phycosphere, and were associated with the dynamics of free-living bacteria (FLB) using metabarcoding and microscopic analyses over 210 days (with weekly sampling intervals) in the Jangmok coastal ecosystem, South Korea. Cluster analysis and non-metric multidimensional scaling classified the phytoplankton community into six groups comprising core phytoplankton species, including the harmful algal species Akashiwo sanguinea (dinoflagellate) in late autumn, Teleaulax amphioxeia (cryptomonads) in early winter and spring, Skeletonema marinoi-dohrnii complex (diatom) in winter, Pseudo-nitzschia delicatissima (diatom) in early spring, and diatom complexes such as Chaetoceros curvisetus and Leptocylindrus danicus in late spring. We identified 59 and 32 indicators in PAB and FLB, respectively, which rapidly changed with the succession of the six core phytoplankton species.
