Purpose: Monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) is a member of the CC chemokine family, and the MCP-1 2518 A/G gene polymorphism is reported to be correlated with chronic inflammatory diseases, including insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. However, few studies have investigated the association between MCP-1 gene polymorphisms and obesity in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We conducted a retrospective case-control study and evaluated the association between the MCP-1 2518 A/G polymorphism and obesity in Korean patients with T2DM.

This study investigated the effect of vacuum plasma (VP) treatment on the osseointegration of sandblasted, large grit, acid-etched (SLA) implant surfaces. The hypothesis was that VP might enhance implant stability, measured by implant stability quotient (ISQ) and histological osseointegration through bone-to-implant contact (BIC) and bone area ratio (BA) in rabbit models.

Background And Objective: To develop a healthcare chatbot service (AI-guided bot) that conducts real-time conversations using large language models to provide accurate health information to patients.
Methods: To provide accurate and specialized medical responses, we integrated several cancer practice guidelines. The size of the integrated meta-dataset was 1.
Background: Diabetes is recognized as a risk factor for various inflammatory conditions, including periodontitis. There exists a bidirectional relationship between glycemic control and oral health in individuals with diabetes. This study aimed to analyze the link between glycemic control and oral health status among Korean patients with diabetes.

In this study, we investigated the efficacy and safety of SGLT2 intervention in patients with T2D in a real-world clinical practice to confirm the validity of the RCT results.
Methods: As a retrospective study, we evaluated medical records from 596 patients with T2D treated with SGLT2 inhibitors (dapagliflozin or empagliflozin) in addition to their prior drug regimen to improve glucose control between 2015 and 2019 in the Endocrinology Department at Chungbuk National University Hospital.
Margin positivity after hilar resection (HR) for bile duct cancer is commonly observed due to its longitudinal spread along the subepithelial plane; nevertheless, we cannot draw conclusions regarding the prognostic effects of margins with high-grade dysplasia (HGD) or carcinoma. We aimed to investigate the oncologic effect according to the margin status after HR, particularly between the R1 HGD and the R1 carcinoma. From 2008 to 2017, 149 patients diagnosed with mid-bile duct cancer in Samsung Medical Center, South Korea, were divided according to margin status after HR and retrospectively analyzed.

Methods: From January 2009 to December 2018, patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma were included. Data were analysed by comparing clinicopathological characteristics, complications, survival, recurrence, adjuvant treatment between octogenarians and the younger group.
This study examined the 10-year trends in the prevalence of osteoporosis according to disability grade and type compared with those without disabilities in South Korea. We linked national disability registration data with the National Health Insurance claims data. Age- and sex-standardized prevalence of osteoporosis were analyzed from 2008 to 2017 according to sex, disability type, and disability grade.

We aimed to investigate the yearly trend of influenza vaccination and factors associated with being unvaccinated for influenza in subjects with diabetes using a nationwide observational study performed within the recent decade.
Methods: Among 105,732 subjects from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2007 and 2019, 8,632 with diabetes were included.
(1) Background: This study identified the clinical outcome and prognostic factors of resected non-ampullary duodenal adenocarcinoma (NADA) in a single tertiary cancer center. (2) Methods: The medical records of 109 patients with NADA who underwent curative surgery between 2000 and 2018 were reviewed retrospectively. (3) Results: The mean age was 62.

The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical course of patients according to pathological response, including cPR, who received only FOLIFIRNOX in advanced pancreatic cancer. Methods: Patients who underwent pancreatectomy after FOLFIRINOX for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) from 2017 to 2019 were retrospectively reviewed.

Although a pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ) is not required after a distal pancreatectomy in most cases, it needs to be performed to prevent atrophy of the remnant pancreas when the proximal duct is obstructed by a tumor, stone, or etc. In these conditions, the critical postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) gives surgeons cause to hesitate before performing a PJ. We previously presented the modified technique of Mattress PJ named "inverted mattress PJ" (IM-PJ) and published improved outcomes in the aspects of POPF after a pancreaticoduodenectomy and a central pancreatectomy.

This study investigated the association between the TyG index and blood pressure (BP) elevation in a large general population.
Methods: The study enrolled 15,721 adults with no history of cardiometabolic diseases from the 2016-2019 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
A novel plasma treatment source for generating cylindrical plasma on the surface of titanium dental implants is developed herein. Using the titanium implant as an electrode and the packaging wall as a dielectric barrier, a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma was generated, allowing the implant to remain sterile. Numerical and experimental investigations were conducted to determine the optimal discharge conditions for eliminating hydrocarbon impurities, which are known to degrade the bioactivity of the implant.

All types of gastrectomy can be categorized as subtotal gastrectomy with Billroth I (BI), Billroth II (BII), and total gastrectomy with Roux-en-Y anastomosis. In this paper, we reviewed our experiences of PD for patients who previously underwent gastrectomy.

Purpose: A multicenter prospective study to evaluate the feasibility of Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) in oncology practice was conducted between June and December 2017. Factors associated with POLST completion and follow-up outcomes were analyzed.
Methods: Patients with terminal cancer, aged ≥ 20 years and capable of communicating, were enrolled from seven hospitals.
Purpose: Despite the many efforts to overcome postoperative complications, pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is still accompanied with considerable concerns of lethal complications. The clinical factors are known to affect postoperative outcomes such as diameter of pancreatic duct, texture of pancreas, and comorbidity of the patients are mostly uncorrectable. Thus, investigation for correctable risk factors is required.

Methods: This serial cross-sectional analysis was conducted using national disability registration data with national general health checkup data from 2008 to 2017. Age-standardized prevalence of underweight and obesity were analyzed for each year, according to the presence, type, and severity of disabilities.
Aims: To investigate the long-term effectiveness and safety of two distinct sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, empagliflozin and dapagliflozin, in inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes (T2D) despite a combined administration of metformin, glimepiride and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor.
Methods: A total of 362 patients with T2D were enrolled for this 3-year open-label, prospective observational study. Empagliflozin (25 mg/day, n = 185) or dapagliflozin (10 mg/day, n = 177) was added to the existing triple drug regimen.
Patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) have a higher risk of bone fracture even when bone mineral density (BMD) values are normal. The trabecular bone score (TBS) was recently developed and used for evaluating bone strength in various diseases. We investigated the effect of DPP-4 inhibitors on bone health using TBS in patients with T2DM.
