Association between prediabetes (defined by HbA1, fasting plasma glucose, and impaired glucose tolerance) and the development of chronic kidney disease: a 9-year prospective cohort study.

Background: The aim of the present study was to investigate the clinical impact of prediabetes on the development of incident chronic kidney disease (CKD) in a Korean adult population, using data from the Korea Genome and Epidemiology Study.

Methods: This prospective cohort study included 7728 Korean adults without baseline CKD and type 2 diabetes. Prediabetes was defined by impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and HbA1 level.

Multiple Bone Metastases as the First Manifestation of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Patient with Noncirrhotic Liver.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) generally occurs on the background of chronic liver disease. Chronic hepatitides B and C and alcoholic liver disease are well-known risk factors for HCC, and it is uncommon in noncirrhotic liver. Extrahepatic metastasis seldom occurs in patients with early stage intrahepatic HCC and isolated bone metastases as a first documented extrahepatic metastasis is unusual presentation.

Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma of the nasopharynx: A case report and review of the literature.

An 80-year-old female with complaints of right-sided nose blockage and occasional epistaxis for several months was referred to Sanggye Paik Hospital (Seoul, Korea). Nasal examination revealed a hemorrhagic mass protruding towards the right posterior nasal cavity, for which the patient was subjected to excisional biopsy. The pathological diagnosis was epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma, as immunohistochemical analysis revealed that the inner cells stained positive for cytokeratin 7, an epithelial cell marker, whereas the outer cells stained positive for smooth muscle actin and P63, consistent with a myoepithelial phenotype.

Will Fluoroscopic Follow-up after Stent-Assisted Coiling of Cerebral Aneurysms Provide Information on Recanalization?

Fluoroscopic images for comparison (FICs) can be easily obtained for follow-up on an outpatient basis. This study retrospectively assessed the diagnostic performance of a set of FICs for evaluation of recanalization after stent-assisted coiling, with digital subtraction angiography (DSA) as the reference standard. A total of 124 patients harboring 144 stent-assisted coiled aneurysms were included.
