Objective: We evaluated two SDS-based preparation methods for direct identification of yeasts using MALDI-TOF MS analysis and antifungal susceptibility testing (AFST).
Methods: A total of 149 residual monomicrobial blood culture bottles (BCs) were included. For direct identification via MALDI-TOF MS analysis from positive BCs, two in-house methods with or without a 3-hr incubation step were evaluated.

Background: Resistance acquired after radiotherapy is directly related to the failure of various cancer treatments, including GBM. Because the mechanism for overcoming radioresistance has not yet been clearly identified, the development of diagnostic and therapeutic markers to treat radioresistance is necessary. Since increased expression of stemness- and EMT-related markers are reported to be closely correlated with radioresistance, research is underway to develop new drugs targeting these factors.

The right mandibular condyle was resected to remove the myxoma. The author performed immediate condylar reconstruction using a costochondral graft (CCG), and stable temporomandibular joint (TMJ) function and occlusion were achieved.

However, the detailed mechanisms of malignancy induced after radiotherapy are not well understood. To develop more effective and improved radiotherapy and diagnostic methods, it is necessary to clearly identify the mechanisms of radioresistance and discover related biomarkers.

The effects of aging on the healing capacity of maxillofacial bone defects have not been studied. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of aging on the regeneration of round bony defects in the mandible. We created a round-shaped bony defect in the mandibular angle area in rats of different ages (2-[2 M], 10-[10 M], and 20-month-old [20 M]) and evaluated new bone regeneration in these groups.

We aimed to assess the accuracy of BD Phoenix for determining carbapenem susceptibility because we observed a decline in carbapenem susceptibility rate from the biannual cumulative data, after we transitioned to the BD Phoenix form Vitek 2 system. Between October 2021 and May 2022, we collected 82 non-duplicated Enterobacterales showing non-susceptible to at least one of the three carbapenems by BD Phoenix. We performed the broth microdilution (BMD) and disk diffusion (DD) according to the CLSI guideline.

Therefore, it is necessary to understand the communication between cells in the tumor and the surrounding microenvironment. Our previous study revealed the cancer malignancy mechanism of Bcl-w overexpressed in solid tumors, but no study was conducted on its relationship with immune cells in the tumor microenvironment.

Therefore, to safely utilize LDR for therapeutic purposes, further research on its numerous biological effects of LDR is required. Interest in the increased use of medical imaging devices or the effects of surrounding living environmental radiation on the human body, particularly on fibrosis, is rapidly increasing.

Mental practice (MP), the cognitive rehearsal of physical activities without overt movements, has recently emerged as a promising rehabilitation method for patients with stroke. This paper presents a systematic review and meta-analysis critically evaluating the existing evidence to offer a comprehensive estimate of the overall effect of MP on motor function in stroke patients. A systematic search of 3 international databases (PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library) was conducted for randomized controlled trials.

The development approach has been changed from a consensus-based approach to an evidence-based approach using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development and Evaluation (GRADE) method. This change ensures that the guidelines are based on the latest and strongest evidence available.

Methods: This was a retrospective chart review study. Data of 171 subacute stroke patients were analyzed.
We evaluated the performance of the BioFire FilmArray Pneumonia panel (PN-panel) in detecting bacterial pathogens by comparing it to cultures and to the usefulness of the leukocyte esterase (LE) urine strip test. Between January and June 2022, a total of 67 sputum specimens were obtained from community-acquired pneumonia patients. The PN-panel and LE test were performed simultaneously with conventional cultures.

Methods: Twenty-three subacute male stroke patients under the age of 65 were prospectively enrolled to exclude both postmenopausal and senile effects on BMD. The TIS, Berg Balance Scale, the Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index, and manual muscle test were measured at admission and 3 months after stroke onset.
Background: Intratendious ganglions are rare lesions, especially on the foot and ankle. Although several studies have presented the intratendinous ganglion of the foot and ankle, there are only few reported cases, and no cases of recurrence or secondary surgery have been reported.
Case Summary: We present the case of a 32-year-old man with an intratendinous ganglion of the second extensor digitorum brevis (EDB) tendon that recurred after ganglion excision.
Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) induces osteogenesis and adipogenesis in bone scaffolds. We evaluated rhBMP-2-induced long-term changes in adipose tissue in the newly formed bone in different scaffolds forms. Bovine bone particles and blocks were grafted along with rhBMP-2 in the subperiosteal space of a rat calvarial bone, and the formation of new bone and adipose tissue were evaluated at 6 and 16 weeks after the surgery.

Efforts to reduce radioresistance are required to increase the effectiveness of radiotherapy. miRNAs are advantageous as therapeutic agents because it can simultaneously inhibit the expression of several target mRNAs.

Superolateral dislocation of the condyle is a rare mandibular fracture. The treatment goal is to return the dislocated condyle to its original position to recover normal function. This study reports on superolateral dislocation of the condyle with mandibular body fracture.

Subjects And Methods: A total of 858 panoramic images of the TMJ (395 normal and 463 TMJ-OA) were obtained from 518 individuals from January 2015 to December 2018. The data were randomly divided into training, validation, and testing sets (6:2:2).
The aim of this study was to compare the bone regeneration ability of particle and block bones, acting as bone scaffolds, with recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein (rhBMP)-2 and evaluate them as rhBMP-2 carriers. Demineralized bovine bone particles, blocks, and rhBMP-2 were grafted into the subperiosteal space of a rat calvarial bone, and the rats were randomly divided into four groups: particle, block, P (particle)+BMP, and B (block)+BMP groups. The bone volume of the B+BMP group was significantly higher than that of the other groups ( < 0.
