BackgroundBenign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common peripheral vestibular disorder, and its prevalence is substantial. While primary BPPV has been well studied, the understanding of secondary BPPV is still limited.ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence and clinical characteristics of secondary BPPV in a national multicenter retrospective analysis.

The effect of metaphyseal holes and interposition material on the longitudinal growth stimulation of long bones in a rabbit model.

Aims: It remains unclear which factors influence overgrowth of the tibia, resulting from the metaphyseal hole created during anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction in skeletally immature patients. This study aimed to investigate the effects of growth stimulation by creating a metaphyseal hole in a rabbit model, based on its distance from the physis and type of interposition material.

Methods: In Experiment 1, 38 skeletally immature male New Zealand white rabbits were randomized into one of four groups: a metaphyseal hole created at 5, 10, or 15 mm distal to the physis of the left proximal tibia with the hole filled with bone wax, or a sham control group.

Background: Glomerular diseases encompass a group of kidney diseases that may share common gene expression pathways. Here, we analyzed glomerular-specific gene expression profiles across various glomerular diseases.

Methods: We performed spatial transcriptomic profiling using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded kidney biopsy specimens of controls and patients with five types of glomerular diseases using the GeoMx Digital Spatial Profiler.

Hot carriers, generated through nonadiabatic energy dissipation during exothermic catalytic reactions, play a pivotal role in enhancing catalytic performance. Upon generation, hot electrons typically reside in the sp-band above the Fermi level, while hot holes are formed in the -band below the Fermi level, following the energy distribution of the metal's electronic structure. However, it has been technically challenging to simultaneously capture and understand the flow of these two opposite charges during chemical reactions.

Rare manifestation of initial central nervous system involvement in severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome-associated encephalopathy/encephalitis: a case report.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is a potentially fatal infectious disease if not diagnosed and treated promptly. Typical clinical features include fever, thrombocytopenia, and lymphadenopathy. However, we encountered a case of SFTS in a 60-year-old male who initially did not exhibit these hallmark symptoms.

The risk of developing depression in tuberculosis survivors: a nationwide cohort study in South Korea.

Background: Despite a high tuberculosis incidence in Korea, the association between tuberculosis and depression remains underexplored. This study aims to assess depression risk in tuberculosis survivors.

Methods: Utilizing South Korea's National Health Insurance Sharing Service (NHISS) database, we conducted a gender-age-matched analysis comparing depression risk between tuberculosis survivors and the general population.

Predictors of Long-Term Survival in Patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis: Data from the IPF-PRO Registry.

We sought to compare the diagnostic efficacy of a 72-hour wearable electrocardiography (ECG) patch monitoring with a conventional 24-hour Holter monitoring for the detection of cardiogenic vertigo. We conducted a prospective multicenter study that recruited 47 patients suspected of cardiogenic vertigo in four referral-based university hospitals between November 2019 and April 2022. Patients received simultaneous ambulatory ECG recordings using a 72-hour wearable ECG patch monitoring and a conventional 24-hour Holter monitor.

With the help of rumen bacteria, ruminants can feed on indigestible plant materials and produce over 70% of their energy as fatty acids. However, during lactation, ruminants exhibit characteristics of monogastric animals due to an undeveloped rumen; therefore, understanding gut microbiome changes in growing calves is essential. Our understanding of the gut microbiome in growing calves remains limited in large populations with the same diet, breed, and period.

Enhanced transfection efficiency of mRNA-loaded polyplexes into natural killer cells through osmoregulation.

High expression of externally injected transcribed (IVT) mRNA in natural killer (NK) cells is a prerequisite for NK cell-mediated cell therapy. To enhance the transfection efficacy of IVT mRNA-loaded polyplexes, we exposed NK cells to a hypertonic condition during transfection, which facilitated endo/exocytosis to maintain the isotonic state of the cells. The transfection efficacy of IVT mRNA was significantly enhanced after 24 h, which was mainly due to the facilitated cellular uptake and endosomal escape of the polyplexes.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most aggressive and common type of primary malignant brain cancer in adults. Purpose: This study aimed to identify prognostic factors for retinal detachment (RD) and final best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in acute retinal necrosis (ARN) patients using ultrawide-field (UWF) fundus imaging.

Multiphase CTA vs. MRA collateral map for predicting functional outcomes after acute ischemic stroke.
