Skin testing of gallic acid-based hair dye in paraphenylenediamine/paratoluenediamine-reactive patients.

Incidence of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) to para-phenylenediamine (PPD)/paratoluenediamine (PTD) hair dyes is increasing. Hair dyes utilizing gallic acid (GA) may be a safe alternative. However, pretesting is recommended.

The therapeutic effects of a topical tretinoin and corticosteroid combination for vitiligo: a placebo-controlled, paired-comparison, left-right study.

Background: Topical all-trans-retinoic acid (tretinoin) prevents skin atrophy induced by long-term use of topical corticosteroids, without abrogating their anti-inflammatory effects.

Objective: The goal of this study was to determine the efficacy of tretinoin plus topical corticosteroids (tretinoin plus) for repigmentation in patients with vitiligo.

Methods: A placebo-controlled, paired-comparison, left-right study was conducted for a period of 6 months on tretinoin plus and the vehicle plus the same topical corticosteroid (vehicle plus) treatment in 50 patients diagnosed with generalized vitiligo.

Combination of glucosamine improved therapeutic effect of low-dose cyclosporin A in patients with atopic dermatitis: a pilot study.

Both glucosamine and cyclosporin have been reported to show immunomodulatory effect with inhibition of each different key transcription factor for cytokine gene expression and T-cell function. The overall purpose of this pilot study was to assess the feasibility of the combination of cyclosporin with glucosamine for the treatment of patients with atopic dermatitis. Twelve patients more than 12 years old who required systemic cyclosporin were included in the study.

Treatment of verrucous carcinoma of the lower lip with topical imiquimod (aldara®) and debulking therapy.

Verrucous carcinoma is an unusual, non-metastasizing, distinct variant of squamous cell carcinoma composed of four subtypes according to the site of occurrence: oral type, anogenital type, plantar type, and other cutaneous sites. Oral type verrucous carcinoma usually shows slow progression with a low incidence of metastases. Treatment of verrcous carcinoma is challenging; multiple medical and surgical therapies are often attempted, with limited success.

Papular elastorrhexis: a case and differential diagnosis.

Papular elastorrhexis is a rare cutaneous disorder that occurs predominantly during adolescence. The disorder is characterized by asymptomatic indurated white or flesh papules showing decreased and fragmented elastic fibers in the dermis. We herein report on a 12-year-old girl with multiple asymptomatic white, nonfollicular, firm papules scattered on the extremities and trunk.

Greater collagen deposition with the microneedle therapy system than with intense pulsed light.

Background: Intense pulsed light (IPL) and the microneedle therapy system (MTS) are currently available for the treatment of scars. Greater collagen deposition has been proposed as a mechanism for the treatment of scars.

Objective: To compare the effects of IPL and MTS on collagen deposition.

A case of argyria following colloidal silver ingestion.

Argyria is a rare cutaneous discoloration caused by the intake of silver or various compounds containing silver. We report a case of argyria in a 73-year-old male following ingestion of colloidal silver as an alternative medicine over 5 years. He had a diffuse, slate gray discoloration of his face and hands.

Association of thymic stromal lymphopoietin gene -847C>T polymorphism in generalized vitiligo.

Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) induces naïve CD4+ T cells to produce Th2 cytokines. In addition, to low production of Th2 cytokines, strong Th1 response, which plays an important role in vitiligo development, has been induced by blockade of TSLP or TSLP receptor. This study examined whether a functional TSLP polymorphism was associated with vitiligo.
