This study aims to analyze data from patients who received kidney transplantation from deceased donors to investigate the anesthetic factors influencing early and late graft outcomes, including the incidence of slow graft function (SGF), delayed graft function (DGF), and 3-year graft outcomes. We retrospectively analyzed 202 recipients who underwent deceased donor kidney transplantation from March 2010 to December 2020. Anesthetic monitoring data during the intraoperative period was analyzed at 5-minute intervals, and basic clinical parameters were evaluated.

BACKGROUND Emergence agitation, or delirium, occurs during early recovery from general anesthesia and involves disorientation, excitation, and uncontrolled physical movements. Dexmedetomidine is an alpha agonist that has sedative, anxiolytic, analgesic, and sympatholytic activities and is used as a continuous infusion to prevent emergence agitation. This study aimed to evaluate patients aged 65 years and older undergoing general anesthesia to determine the 90% effective dose (ED90) of dexmedetomidine continuous intraoperative infusion to prevent emergence agitation.

BACKGROUND The Baska mask is a supraglottic airway device that has a continuous non-inflatable flexible cuff that mimics an airway, reducing the risk of overinflation and aspiration of gastric contents. This prospective study from a single center aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of the Baska mask vs endotracheal intubation (ET) in 64 women undergoing elective laparoscopic gynecological surgery in Trendelenburg position under general anesthesia. MATERIAL AND METHODS This was a prospective randomized study conducted on 64 adult female patients, 32 in each group, undergoing gynecologic surgery under general anesthesia.

Perioperative cerebral hypoperfusion/ischemia is considered to play a pivotal role in the development of secondary traumatic brain injury (TBI). This prospective randomized, double-blind, controlled study investigated whether magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) infusion was associated with neuroprotection in maintaining regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) values in patients with mild TBI undergoing general anesthesia. Immediately after intubation, we randomly assigned patients with TBI to receive either intravenous MgSO4 (30 mg/kg for 10 min, followed by a continuous infusion of 15 mg/kg/h) or a placebo (saline) during surgery.

Background And Objectives: Unipolar sternocleidomastoid release with myectomy (USRM) for correction of congenital muscular torticollis in pediatric patients produces moderate to severe postoperative pain. The objective of this trial was to examine the effect of ultrasound-guided intermediate cervical plexus block on postoperative pain after USRM.

Methods: Thirty-two patients (1-7 years old) were enrolled in this parallel-group, patient- and observer-blinded, randomized controlled trial.

Background And Objectives: Single-incision transaxillary robotic thyroidectomy (START) requires substantial tissue disruption, which produces moderate-to-severe pain in the axilla and neck areas during the early postoperative period. This study aimed to investigate the analgesic effects of ultrasound-guided serratus-intercostal plane blocks and intermediate cervical plexus blocks (CPBs) on the early postoperative pain after START.

Methods: We randomized 22 patients to undergo either ultrasound-guided serratus-intercostal plane and intermediate CPBs (the block group, n = 11) or to not undergo any block (the control group, n = 11).

Vacuolar protein sorting 1 (Vps1), the yeast homolog to human dynamin, is a GTP hydrolyzing protein, which plays an important role in protein sorting and targeting between the Golgi and late endosomal compartments. In this study, we assessed the functional significance of Vps1 in the membrane traffic towards the vacuole. We show here that vps1 delta cells accumulated FM4-64 to a greater extent than wild-type (WT))cells, suggesting slower endocytic degradation traffic toward the vacuole.
