Background: This study aimed to examine the clinical implications of selective station 4L lymph node dissection (S4L-LND) on survival in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and to evaluate its potential advantages.

Methods: We enrolled patients with primary left-sided NSCLC who underwent upfront video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery with R0 resection including lobectomy and segmentectomy, with or without S4L-LND, at our institution between January 2007 and December 2021. Following 1:1 propensity score matching (PSM), we compared overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) between patients with and without S4L-LND.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed using 1973-2014 data from the Metropolitan Detroit Cancer Surveillance System, a population-based cancer registry and member of the National Institutes of Health-National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program.

Risk of dermal and inhalation exposure to chlorantraniliprole assessed by using whole-body dosimetry in Korea.

Background: We determined the characteristics and evaluated associated risks of sprayed pesticide exposure among workers cultivating Korean cabbage. The test pesticide, a mixture of 3% chlorantraniliprole and 4% indoxacarb wettable granules diluted 2000 times, was sprayed on Korean cabbage within a 3000 m area in Goesan, Korea. Dermal exposures were measured using a whole-body dosimetry method.

Mixture of Two Lactobacillus plantarum Strains Modulates the Gut Microbiota Structure and Regulatory T Cell Response in Diet-Induced Obese Mice.

Scope: The gut microbiota has been linked to diet-induced obesity, and microorganisms that influence obesity have important health implications. In this study, the anti-obesity effects of two Lactobacillus plantarum strains (DSR M2 and DSR 920) isolated from kimchi are investigated.

Methods And Results: Mice are fed a normal or high-fat diet with or without DSR M2 and DSR 920 (DSR, 1 × 10 CFU d ) for 12 weeks.

A moderately halophilic and alkalitolerant bacterial strain NKC1-1 was isolated from commercial kimchi in Korea. Strain NKC1-1 was Gram-stain-positive, aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, and contained diaminopimelic acid-type murein. Cell growth was observed in a medium containing 0-25% (w/v) NaCl (optimal at 10% [w/v]), at 20-40°C (optimal at 37°C) and pH 6.

Background: The association between common benign gynecologic conditions and ovarian cancer remains under-studied in African Americans. Therefore, we examine the association between self-reported history of benign gynecologic conditions and epithelial ovarian cancer risk in African-American women.

Methods: Data from a large population-based, multi-center case-control study of epithelial ovarian cancer in African-American women were analyzed to estimate the association between self-reported history of endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), fibroid, and ovarian cyst with epithelial ovarian cancer.

WIKIM30 Ameliorates Atopic Dermatitis-Like Skin Lesions by Inducing Regulatory T Cells and Altering Gut Microbiota Structure in Mice.

WIKIM30 is a Gram-positive facultative anaerobic bacterium isolated from kimchi, a Korean fermented vegetable food. In this study, we found that WIKIM30 promoted regulatory T cell (Treg) differentiation by inducing dendritic cells with tolerogenic properties. The production of the T helper (Th) 2-associated cytokine interleukin (IL)-4 was decreased, but that of the Treg-associated cytokine IL-10 was increased in splenocytes from ovalbumin-sensitized mice treated with WIKIM30.
