Predictors of self-care in kidney transplant patients according to preoperative dialysis: A comparative study.

Background: Preemptive kidney transplantation (PKT) is associated with reduced dialysis-related morbidity and improved graft survival, which has led to an increase in the prevalence of PKT. The distinct clinical pathways of PKT and non-preemptive kidney transplantation (NPKT) patients may affect their ability to perform self-care, a key factor in post-transplant recovery. However, there is ongoing controversy regarding which group demonstrates better self-care abilities, highlighting the need to explore the factors influencing self-care in each group.

Anomalous Reaction Pathways to Methane Production in Photocatalytic Ethanol Oxidation.

Photocatalytic reduction reactions occasionally utilize sacrificial agents to scavenge photogenerated holes, thus enhancing the kinetics and efficiency of electron harvesting. However, exploring alternative hole-mediated oxidation reactions and their potential impact on photoredox processes is limited. This study investigates the products resulting from the oxidation of ethanol, a commonly used hole scavenger, and the underlying mechanisms involved.

Ir(triNHC)-Catalyzed Upcycling of Waste PET for Lactic Acid Production with Sustainable Isolation via Bipolar Membrane Electrodialysis.

For the upcycling of waste polyethylene terephthalate (PET), encompassing both colored and fabric PET materials, we investigated the Ir(triNHC)-catalyzed dehydrogenative coupling of PET and methanol, leading to the production of sodium lactate with good yields. We proposed a sustainable method for isolating lactic acid from the catalytic reaction mixture of sodium lactate and regenerating the base using bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BMED). Ir(tri-N-heterocyclic carbene)-catalyzed upgrading of glycerol: C-C bond formation for the synthesis of α-hydroxy acids.

Ir(triNHC) complexes catalyzed glycerol and alcohol dehydrogenative coupling, yielding diverse α-hydroxy acids. Unlike conventional conditions, Ir(triNHC) facilitated additional C-C bond formation after lactic acid production from glycerol, exhibiting high TOFs. This protocol successfully converted 1,2-propanediol and sorbitol into α-hydroxy acids, highlighting biomass-derived sources' potential as valuable platform chemicals.

Predictors of Sleep Quality in Spouse Caregivers of Community-Dwelling People With Dementia Using Propensity Score Matching Analysis.

Background: Many family caregivers of people with dementia (PwDs) have sleep problems and poor sleep quality. Sleep may be negatively affected by caring for a family member with dementia, especially a spouse.

Purpose: This study was designed to assess sleep quality in spouse caregivers of PwDs and determine the impact of care provision on their sleep quality.

The life experiences of living liver donors: A qualitative meta-synthesis.

As living liver transplantation has become a standard treatment method with a high success rate, many studies have investigated the experiences of living liver donors; however, their results have not been integrated. This qualitative meta-synthesis aimed to explore the life experiences of living liver donors to provide an in-depth understanding of meaningful common experiences. A comprehensive search on qualitative studies published in English or Korean was conducted in October 2021.

Surface activated zinc-glutarate for the copolymerization of CO and epoxides.

Zinc-glutarate (ZnGA) is a promising catalyst that can form polymers from CO and epoxides, thereby contributing to the development of CO utilization technologies and future sustainability. One of the obstacles to commercializing ZnGA in polymer industries is its low catalytic activity. In this study, we introduced activated two-dimensional (2D) ZnGA to improve its catalytic activity in polymerization.

Factors Associated With Depressive Symptoms in Individuals Who Have Experienced COVID-19 Self-Quarantine.

The purpose of this study was to identify the factors associated with depressive symptoms in individuals who have experienced self-quarantine because of coronavirus disease exposure or infection using Lazarus and Folkman's stress, coping, and adaptation theory, and George's Social Antecedent Model of Depression. This was a cross-sectional study that used data from the 2020 Korean Community Health Survey. A complex sample design was used to analyze the data.

Synthesis of α-Hydroxy Acids via Dehydrogenative Cross-Coupling of a Sustainable C Chemical (Ethylene Glycol) with Alcohols.

Ir(NHC) (NHC, -heterocyclic carbene)-catalyzed dehydrogenative coupling of sustainable ethylene glycol and various bioalcohols can produce industrially valuable α-hydroxy acids (AHAs). This study is the first to report the sustainable synthesis of higher C AHAs, in addition to glycolic acid (C AHA) and lactic acid (C AHA). This catalytic system can be recycled to the seventh cycle while maintaining good yields.

A Phenomenological Study of Nurses' Experience in Caring for COVID-19 Patients.

This study aimed to understand and describe the experiences of nurses who cared for patients with COVID-19. A descriptive phenomenological approach was used to collect data from individual in-depth interviews with 14 nurses, from 20 October 2020 to 15 January 2021. Data were analyzed using the phenomenological method of Colaizzi.

Life Experiences of Older Men Living Alone With Depression.

As the percentage of older adults living alone increases, social interest has been drawn to this physically, financially, and socially vulnerable group. The purpose of the current study was to gain a deeper understanding of the life experiences of older men with depression who live alone. Eight community-dwelling men aged ≥65 years who lived alone in Korea and had depression were enrolled in this study.

This study was conducted to identify the factors associated with frailty according to gender of older adults living alone in Korea. Data from the National Survey of the Living Conditions of Korean Elderly in 2017 were used. Participants were 2340 older adults who live alone.

Room-Temperature Synthesis of a Hollow Microporous Organic Polymer Bearing Activated Alkyne IR Probes for Nonradical Thiol-yne Click-Based Post-Functionalization.

This work shows that hollow microporous organic polymer (H-MOP-A) with activated internal alkynes as IR probes can be prepared by template synthesis based on acyl Sonogashira-Hagihara coupling at room temperature. The H-MOP-A is a versatile platform in the main chain PSM based on nonradical thiol-yne click reaction. Moreover, an IR peak of internal alkynes in the H-MOP-A is very intense and could be utilized in the monitoring of thiol-yne click-based main chain PSM.

The Effects of Social Networks of the Older Adults with Limited Instrumental Activities of Daily Living on Unmet Medical Needs.

This study was conducted to identify the effects of social networks on unmet medical needs among older adults with limited instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) who live in a community. This study analyzed data from 2281 older adults with limited IADL from the 2017 National Survey of Older Koreans. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, X2 tests, -tests, and logistic regression analysis.

Copper-Catalyzed Oxidative Cleavage of the C-C Bonds of β-Alkoxy Alcohols and β-1 Compounds.

Copper-catalyzed aerobic oxidation conditions were employed to promote the C-C bond cleavage of β-alkoxy alcohols and β-1 compounds (lignin model compounds). Besides these compounds, various 1,2 and 1,3-diols were successfully converted to aldehydes. We propose the Cu(I)-catalyzed mechanism explaining the C-C cleavage of these 1,2 and 1,3-dihydroxy compounds and β-alkoxy alcohols based on XPS data.

Critical care nurses' communication challenges during handovers: A systematic review and qualitative meta-synthesis.

Aims: To review and synthesize qualitative studies to gain a deeper understanding of critical care nurses' inter-departmental and shift-to-shift handover challenges.

Background: Good-quality nurse-to-nurse handover promotes patient safety, while poor handover has been associated with medical errors. However, systematic reviews of qualitative approaches for better understanding the handover experiences of critical care nurses are lacking.

Partnership between staff and family in long-term care facility: a hybrid concept analysis.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the attributes and verify the definition of the partnership concept using the hybrid model.

Methods: A hybrid model was used to develop the concept of partnership. The hybrid model consists of three phases: theoretical, fieldwork and final analytical.

Predictors of Satisfaction with Care Services among Family Members of Older Adult Residents of Long-Term Care Facilities.

This study identified predictors of satisfaction with care services among family members of older adults residing in long-term care facilities (LTCFs). In this cross-sectional descriptive study, the participants were 330 family members of older adult residents of LTCFs in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Gyeongbuk, and Chungnam, Korea. Data were collected from July to October 2018 using a structured self-report questionnaire.

This study was conducted to identify the factors associated with successful aging in older adults based on the ecological system model. Data from the 2017 National Survey of the Living Conditions of Korean Elderly were used. Participants comprised 10,074 older adults.

Development and Validation of the Scale for Partnership in Care-for Family (SPIC-F).

This study aims to develop and validate the Scale for Partnership in Care between staff and families of older adult nursing home (NH) residents-for Family (SPIC-F). The components of partnership were identified on the basis of literature reviews and focus group interviews. The content validity of 41 preliminary items was verified by 10 experts, and a pilot study was conducted.
