Purpose: Patient-specific guides have been introduced recently as a means of making accurate bone cuts through custom cutting blocks constructed based on pre-operative three-dimensional imaging. However, the controversy concerning the improved results of patient-specific guides have not been resolved yet; in addition, there have been no studies to investigate the causes of variable with inconsistent results and solutions for the causes.

Methods: Thirty eight patients (38 knees) underwent total knee arthroplasty with patient-specific guides.

Background: Although various treatment modalities for an osteochondral lesion of the talus (OLT) with a subchondral cyst have been recommended previously, the primary treatment methods for such conditions have yet to be conclusively determined. Moreover, few comprehensive studies have compared the outcomes of cases where patients were treated with microfracture for OLT with and without subchondral cysts.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcomes after arthroscopic microfractures performed as a primary treatment for OLT with a subchondral cyst.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares long-term outcomes of two PCL reconstruction techniques: transtibial using hamstring autograft and tibial inlay using patellar tendon autograft, with a total of 66 patients involved.
  • Results show that both techniques improved knee function as measured by Lysholm and Tegner scores, with tibial inlay showing slightly better postoperative scores.
  • Despite some differences in laxity and return to sports activity, both techniques yielded similar rates of success in clinical outcomes over an average follow-up of 148 months.

Purpose: To compare the outcomes of arthroscopic microfracture for chondral and osteochondral lesions of the talus, and to identify the characteristics.

Method: One hundred and four ankles were divided into two groups, namely chondral group (58 ankles) and osteochondral group (46 ankles). The chondral group consisted of 37 men and 21 women with a mean age of 41.

Background: Polydactyly of the fifth toe is the most common congenital malformation of the forefoot, and no consensus has been reached as to which toe component should be excised or by which surgical technique. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of the operative treatment of postaxial polydactyly and to offer treatment guidelines.

Method: We retrospectively reviewed the details of 27 patients with postaxial polydactyly (36 feet) treated from September 2004 to March 2010.

Purpose: The authors performed this study to compare the outcomes of robotic-assisted and conventional TKA in same patient simultaneously. It was hypothesized that the robotic-assisted procedure would produce better leg alignment and component orientation, and thus, improve patient satisfaction and clinical and radiological outcomes.

Methods: Thirty patients underwent bilateral sequential total knee replacement.

Background: Brachymetatarsia is the presence of an abnormally short metatarsal, and distraction osteogenesis has been used for its treatment. The purpose of the present study was to compare the outcomes of patients who underwent distraction osteogenesis for the treatment of first and/or fourth brachymetatarsia.

Methods: The data from forty-eight patients (sixty-four feet, seventy-four metatarsals) who underwent distraction osteogenesis for the treatment of brachymetatarsia were reviewed.
