Background: India ink has been a popular choice for a tattooing agent in preoperative endoscopic localization but often results in unfavorable effects. Subsequently, autologous blood tattooing has arisen as an alternative option. Due to the limited availability of comparative studies on the matter, we conducted a study to compare the perioperative outcomes associated with India ink tattooing versus autologous blood tattooing.

Purpose: The adequacy of lymph node (LN) harvest is important in oncological colon cancer resections. While several studies have suggested factors influencing LN yield in colon cancer, limited data are available only regarding right hemicolectomies with complete mesocolic excision (CME) and central vessel ligation (CVL).
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 169 patients who underwent right hemicolectomies with CME and CVL for right-sided colon cancer between February 2019 and March 2023.
Purpose: Blood transfusion is one of the most common procedures used to treat anemia in colorectal surgery. Despite controversy regarding the adverse effects of blood products, surgeons have maintained standards for administering blood transfusions. However, this trend was restrictive during the COVID-19 pandemic because of a shortage of blood products.

Various SNEDDSs containing 200 mg of RVP were formulated using Capmul MCM, Tween 80, and Brij L4, and they were characterized according to their size, polydispersity index, and dissolution behavior. Dissolution rates of all SNEDDS formulations significantly ( < 0.

Background: The purpose of this study is to investigate the drinking behavior of Korean pregnant women in 2017 and to compare the changes of drinking status with the results of the research conducted in 1997 and 2008.
Methods: Pregnant women at one obstetrics and gynecology hospital and one university hospital were the subjects of the study. They were filled out questionnaire.
Intravesical instillation of a poloxamer 407 (PLX)-based hydrogel offers advantages such as thermo-sensitivity and sol-to-gel transition, but its utility is limited by urinary obstruction and insufficient bladder residence time. To overcome these obstacles, a floating PLX-hydrogel (FPH) was developed using sodium bicarbonate (BC) as a floating agent and hyaluronic acid (HA) as a gel strength modulator. The FPH composition was optimized using the Box-Behnken design with three independent variables: X [PLX concentration, 23.

Methods: Surfactants and solid carriers were screened based on a solubility and a flowability test, respectively. Supersaturating agents, including Poloxamer 407 (P407), were screened.
This study was conducted to construct basic data for the selection of elite cows by analyzing the estimated breeding value (EBV) and accuracy using the pedigree of Hanwoo cows in Gyeongnam. The phenotype trait used in the analysis are the carcass weight (CWT), eye muscle area (EMA), backfat thickness (BFT) and marbling score (MS). The pedigree of the test group and reference group was collected to build a pedigree structure and a numeric relationship matrix (NRM).

Groundwater samples were collected from 3818 wells used for the community groundwater system (CGS) in the remote rural areas of South Korea and analyzed to determine radon concentrations. Radon concentrations varied with rock type, ranging from 0.1 to 2393.

Causative organisms are members of the bacterial family or anaerobes in most cases and significant comorbidities such as diabetes mellitus and malignancy, may predispose an individual to the development of emphysematous osteomyelitis. We report a case of extensive emphysematous osteomyelitis via hematogenous spread from liver abscess, complicated by gas-containing abscesses in adjacent soft tissues and epidural space, and multiple systemic septic emboli in a diabetic patient.

Participants were allocated to control (C, 5 g/day placebo powder, n = 7), mastic (M, 5 g/day mastic powder, n = 7), or mastic plus physical activity groups (M + PA, 5 g/day mastic powder and 30-min exercise three times/week, n = 7), and measurements were taken at baseline, 3 and 6 months. Serum triglycerides were significantly reduced at 3 months in M and M + PA compared with C ( < 0.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of A1C variability on the progression of carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT) in type 2 diabetic patients.
Methods: Among type 2 diabetic patients who visited Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital from March 2007 to September 2009, 120 patients who had carotid artery IMT measured annually and A1C checked every three months for at least one year were analyzed.
An unanticipated wind shift led to the advection of plumes from two prescribed burning sites that impacted Atlanta, GA, producing a heavy smoke event late in the afternoon on February 28, 2007. Observed PM2.5 concentrations increased to over 140 microg/m3 and O3 concentrations up to 30 ppb in a couple of hours, despite the late hour in February when photochemistry is less vigorous.

Methods: Thirty-eight patients of gastric cancer who underwent abdominal and pelvic computed tomography scans before and after STG (n = 28) or TG (n = 10) were examined. The volumes of the total, visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissues (TAT, VAT and SAT, respectively) were calculated in each scan using the multislice method.
Introducing nonnative metal ions or metal-containing prosthetic groups into a protein can dramatically expand the repertoire of its functionalities and thus its range of applications. Particularly challenging is the control of substrate-binding and thus reaction selectivity such as enantioselectivity. To meet this challenge, both non-covalent and single-point attachments of metal complexes have been demonstrated previously.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTo probe the role of copper and protons in heme-copper oxidase (HCO), we have performed kinetic studies on an engineered heme-copper center in sperm whale myoglobin (Leu-29 --> HisPhe-43 --> His, called Cu(B)Mb) that closely mimics the heme-copper center in HCO. In the absence of metal ions, the engineered Cu(B) center in Cu(B)Mb decreases the O(2) binding affinity of the heme. However, addition of Ag(I), a redox-inactive mimic of Cu(I), increases the O(2)-binding affinity.
