The application of deep learning techniques for the analysis of neuroimaging has been increasing recently. The 3D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) technology, which is commonly adopted to encode volumetric information, requires a large number of datasets. However, due to the nature of the medical domain, there are limitations in the number of data available.

Butein is a flavonoid found in many plants, including dahlia, butea, and coreopsis, and has both antioxidant and sirtuin-activating activities. In light of the postulated role of free radicals in aging, we examined the effects of butein on aging and on genetic or nutritional models of age-related diseases in . Butein showed radical scavenging activity and increased resistance to oxidative stress in .

Gait and physical fitness are related to cognitive function. A decrease in motor function and physical fitness can serve as an indicator of declining global cognitive function in older adults. This study aims to use machine learning (ML) to identify important features of gait and physical fitness to predict a decline in global cognitive function in older adults.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers created a machine learning model to predict remission in patients with rheumatoid arthritis receiving biologic drugs (bDMARDs), using data from 1204 patients.
  • They employed various machine learning techniques and Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) to interpret how different clinical features influenced the predictions for each type of bDMARD.
  • The model demonstrated moderate accuracy in prediction, identifying key factors like age and disease duration as important for different bDMARDs, potentially aiding in personalized treatment approaches.

Background/aims: Cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP)-dependent type 2 regulatory subunit beta (Prkar2b) is a regulatory isoform of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA), which is the primary target for cAMP actions. In oocytes, PKA and the pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) have important roles during the germinal vesicle (GV) stage arrest of development. Although the roles of the PKA signal pathway have been studied in the development of oocyte, there has been no report on the function of PRKAR2B, a key regulator of PKA.

Dexamethasone-induced RAS-related protein 1 (RASD1) is a signaling protein that is involved in various cellular processes. In a previous study, we found that RASD1 expression was down-regulated in the uterine endometrium of repeated implantation failure patients. The study aim was to determine whether RASD1 is expressed in the endometrium of mouse uterus and how it is regulated by steroid hormones during the estrous cycle.

Background: Ras dexamethasone-induced protein (RASD1) is a member of Ras superfamily of small GTPases. RASD1 regulates various signaling pathways involved in iron homeostasis, growth hormone secretion, and circadian rhythm. However, RASD1 function in oocyte remains unknown.

Premature ovarian failure (POF) is a major side effect of chemotherapy in young cancer patients. To develop pharmaceutical agents for preserving fertility, it is necessary to understand the mechanisms responsible for chemotherapy-induced follicle loss. Here, we show that treatment with cisplatin, a widely used anticancer drug, depleted the dormant follicle pool in mouse ovaries by excessive activation of the primordial follicles, without inducing follicular apoptosis.
