A mathematical model for the transmission of co-infection with COVID-19 and kidney disease.

The world suffers from the acute respiratory syndrome COVID-19 pandemic, which will be scary if other co-existing illnesses exacerbate it. The co-occurrence of the COVID-19 virus with kidney disease has not been available in the literature. So, further research needs to be conducted to reveal the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 and kidney disease.

Distribution Pattern and Outcome of the Patients in the Intensive Care Unit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University: A Short Term Analysis.

The aim of the study was to describe the characteristics of patients admitted to intensive care unit and their outcome in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Bangladesh. This retrospective, descriptive study was conducted in the intensive care unit of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) from January 2016 to June 2016. Data was retrieved from hospital records of all admitted patients regarding age, gender, admission source, reason for admission, length of ICU stay, requirement of mechanical ventilation, number of organ failure and their outcome.

Stage 2 Process Performance Qualification (PPQ): a Scientific Approach to Determine the Number of PPQ Batches.

The approach documented in this article reviews data from earlier process validation lifecycle stages with a described statistical model to provide the "best estimate" on the number of process performance qualification (PPQ) batches that should generate sufficient information to make a scientific and risk-based decision on product robustness. This approach is based upon estimation of a statistical confidence from the current product knowledge (Stage 1), historical variability for similar products/processes (batch-to-batch), and label claim specifications such as strength. The analysis is to determine the confidence level with the measurements of the product quality attributes and to compare them with the specifications.

Acceptance Probability (P a) Analysis for Process Validation Lifecycle Stages.

This paper introduces an innovative statistical approach towards understanding how variation impacts the acceptance criteria of quality attributes. Because of more complex stage-wise acceptance criteria, traditional process capability measures are inadequate for general application in the pharmaceutical industry. The probability of acceptance concept provides a clear measure, derived from specific acceptance criteria for each quality attribute.

Role of USG-guided fine needle aspiration cytology in the diagnosis of abdominal mass.

The present study was carried out with the aims to diagnose abdominal masses by FNAC with the help of ultrasonography guidance and to determine the diagnostic accuracy of FNAC. One hundred consecutive patients were studied during the period from January 2005 to December 2005. Histopathological examination was done to correlate with the cytologic diagnosis.

Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation of hepatic tumours: factors affecting technical failure of artificial ascites formation using an angiosheath.

Aim: To evaluate the technical feasibility of artificial ascites formation using an angiosheath before percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for hepatic tumours and to determine predictive factors affecting the technical failure of artificial ascites formation.

Materials And Methods: This retrospective study was approved by the institutional review board. One hundred and thirteen patients underwent percutaneous RFA of hepatic tumours after trying to make artificial ascites using an angiosheath to avoid collateral thermal damage.

Pulsatile spiral blood flow through arterial stenosis.

Pulsatile spiral blood flow in a modelled three-dimensional arterial stenosis, with a 75% cross-sectional area reduction, is investigated by using numerical fluid dynamics. Two-equation k-ω model is used for the simulation of the transitional flow with Reynolds numbers 500 and 1000. It is found that the spiral component increases the static pressure in the vessel during the deceleration phase of the flow pulse.

Intrathecal neostigmine for postoperatrive analgesia in caesarean section.

This study was done for intrathecal adjuncts often are used to enhance small dose spinal bupivacaine anaesthesia. We designed this study to evaluate the postoperative analgesic efficacy and safety of intrathecal neostigmine. A randomized, double-blind prospective study was conducted in 90 healthy term pregnant patients scheduled to undergoing elective caesarean section using spinal anaesthesia.

Prolonged analgesia by adding midazolam and hyperbaric bupivacaine in subarachnoid block for lower uterine caesarian section.

Antinociceptive effect and safety of sub-arachnoid (SAB) midazolam is well established in animals and human beings. In this randomized, prospective placebo control clinical study, we investigated the addition of 2.5mg midazolam to bupivacaine on the quality of surgical anaesthesia and duration of first analgesic in the post operative period after lower uterine caesarean section (LUCS).

Performance of variations of carbolfuchsin staining of sputum smears for AFB under field conditions.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of commonly used carbolfuchsin staining variations.

Design: Routine hot Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) 1% basic fuchsin staining for 15 min in 75 field clinics.

Objective: To define the efficiency of numbers of microscopic fields screened and the sputum collection scheme used for diagnostic smear examination.
