Post-operative outcomes of inflammatory thoracic aortitis: a study of 41 patients from a cohort of 1119 surgical cases.

Aortitis is found in 2-12% of thoracic aortic aneurysm repair/replacement surgeries. Yet little is known about such patients' post-operative outcomes or the role of post-operative corticosteroids. The study was undertaken across three tertiary referral hospitals in Sydney, Australia.

Role of Optic Nerve Sheath Fenestration in Inflammatory Pachymeningitis Causing Visual Impairment.

Eye disease due to pachymeningitis caused by immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a rare occurrence. Here, the authors report a unique case of a patient presenting with visual loss from raised intracerebral pressure from pachymeningitis most likely related to IgG4-RD. The patient was treated with acetazolamide and steroids, and an optic nerve sheath fenestration was performed to successfully save the patients vision.

IDH2 Mutations Define a Unique Subtype of Breast Cancer with Altered Nuclear Polarity.

Solid papillary carcinoma with reverse polarity (SPCRP) is a rare breast cancer subtype with an obscure etiology. In this study, we sought to describe its unique histopathologic features and to identify the genetic alterations that underpin SPCRP using massively parallel whole-exome and targeted sequencing. The morphologic and immunohistochemical features of SPCRP support the invasive nature of this subtype.

Brachial artery aneurysm and thrombosis secondary to fibromuscular dysplasia.

Fibromuscular dysplasia is a pathologic process causing stenosis and dilation of medium-caliber arteries of unknown etiology. It most commonly affects the renal and carotid arteries; however, it has been described in virtually all anatomic areas, including, rarely, the brachial artery. We describe a case of brachial artery aneurysm and thrombosis in a 29-year-old man secondary to fibromuscular dysplasia, treated surgically with excision, embolectomy, interposed vein graft, and anticoagulation.
