Prognostic value of [F]FDG PET/CT in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

The study investigates the prognostic value of [F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). A total of 346 IPF patients who underwent FDG PET/CT between 2007 and 2020 were analyzed. Pulmonary FDG uptake [target to background ratio (TBR)] was binarized by optimal cut-off value based on survival analysis.

Complications and Reinterventions of Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty in a Korean Population: 14-Year Experience in Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty.

Background: There are few reports on the revision or reintervention of reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) in South Korea. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the true incidence of complications and reintervention of RTSA and clinical and radiological outcomes based on our 14-year experience in RTSA in a Korean population.

Methods: Between March 2008 and June 2022, 412 consecutive cases of RTSA were performed in 388 patients with an average age of 74.

Comparative Analysis of Autophagy and Apoptosis in Disc Degeneration: Understanding the Dynamics of Temporary-Compression-Induced Early Autophagy and Sustained-Compression-Triggered Apoptosis.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the initiation of autophagy activation and apoptosis in nucleus pulposus cells under temporary compression (TC) and sustained compression (SC) to identify ideal research approaches in intervertebral disc degeneration. Various techniques were used: radiography (X-ray), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), transmission electron microscope (TEM), H&E staining, Masson's trichrome staining, immunohistochemistry (IHC) (LC3, beclin-1, and cleaved caspase-3), and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) for autophagy-related (beclin-1, LC3, and P62) and apoptosis-related (caspase-3 and PARP) gene expression analysis. X-ray and MRI revealed varying degrees of disc degeneration, ranging from moderate to severe in both groups.

Intracranial Involvement of Systemic Hodgkin Lymphoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

A 27-year-old male patient, previously diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL), presented with gait disturbance. Brain MRI showed a 4.5 cm mass lesion in the right occipital lobe, suggesting either intracranial involvement of HL or a potential meningioma.

Incidence and outcomes of intraoperative periprosthetic acetabular fractures during cementless total hip arthroplasty: a prospective three-dimensional computer tomography-based study.

Purpose: Unlike periprosthetic femoral fractures, periprosthetic acetabular fractures during total hip arthroplasty (THA) have not been evaluated in detail. We prospectively evaluated the incidence, patterns, risk factors, and clinical outcomes of intraoperative periprosthetic acetabular fractures using pre- and postoperative computer tomography (CT).

Methods: In this prospective single-centre study, we evaluated 234 consecutive patients (250 hips) who underwent THA and three-dimensional CT before and after the surgery.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between methionine (MET) metabolism and endocrine function of the pituitary gland in patients with suprasellar region tumor.

Mid-term comparative study between the glenoid and humerus lateralization designs for reverse total shoulder arthroplasty: which lateralization design is better?

Introduction: The complications of the conventional medialized design for reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) are increased scapular notching, and decreased external rotation and deltoid wrapping. Currently, lateralization design RSA, which avoid scapular notching and improve impingement-free range of motion, is commonly used. Especially, humeral lateralization design was most commonly used and glenoid lateralization design was preferred for glenoid abnormities.

Purpose: Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) and subsequent head collapse is a major concern after internal fixation of femoral neck fracture (FNF). Previous studies focused on ONFH incidence using plain radiography; postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was rarely performed. We performed a multicenter retrospective study to investigate the incidence of ONFH and the need for conversion hip arthroplasty after FNF screw fixation.

Osteoclast and Sclerostin Expression in Osteocytes in the Femoral Head with Risedronate Therapy in Patients with Hip Fractures: A Retrospective Comparative Study.

Background and Objectives: The majority of research on the effects of osteoporosis drugs has measured the bone mineral density (BMD) of the spine and femur through dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) and compared and analyzed the effects of the drugs through changes in the BMD values. This study aims to compare osteoclast and sclerostin expression in osteocytes after risedronate therapy by obtaining femoral heads from patients with hip fractures. Materials and Methods: We obtained the femoral heads of 10 female patients (age: ≥65 years) who received risedronate therapy for at least 1 year through hip arthroplasty during 2019−2021 (risedronate group).

Concomitant tuberculosis of the iliotibial band mimicking a soft tissue tumor and tuberculous trochanteric bursitis: a case report emphasizing on magnetic resonance imaging findings.

The risk of tuberculosis (TB) increases in immunocompromised patients. Multiple myeloma is considered a risk factor for TB and myeloma patients with TB have a higher mortality rate than those without TB. Herein, we report a case of concomitant TB of the iliotibial band mimicking a soft tissue tumor and tuberculous trochanteric bursitis in a patient with multiple myeloma.

Impact of coronal plane fragments and anterior big neck fragments on the occurrence of perioperative lateral wall fractures in AO/OTA 31-A1,2 intertrochanteric fractures treated with cephalomedullary nailing.

Purpose: Cephalomedullary nails are used widely today for pertrochanteric fractures, and intraoperative lateral wall fractures can cause adverse effects. Recently, a high incidence of coronal fragments in pertrochanteric fractures was reported when analyzed with 3D CT reconstructions. In this study, we analyzed the association between the type of coronal fragments and perioperative lateral wall fractures.

Effect of TSH stimulation protocols on adequacy of low-iodine diet for radioiodine administration.

Low-iodine diet (LID) is a crucial preparation for radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment or scan in thyroid cancer. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) stimulation protocols and other clinical factors on LID adequacy. Thyroid cancer patients who underwent LID for RAI scan or treatment were retrospectively analyzed.

Factors Affecting Periprosthetic Bone Loss after Hip Arthroplasty.

Periprosthetic bone loss may lead to major complications in hip arthroplasty, including aseptic loosening, implant migration, and even periprosthetic fracture. Such a complication leads to revision surgeries, which are expensive, technically demanding, and result in a low satisfaction rate. Therefore, a study was conducted of the factors affecting the periprosthetic bone loss around the stem that caused these complications.

Hypernatremia at admission predicts poor survival in patients with terminal cancer: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: Although palliative care providers, patients, and their families rely heavily on accurate prognostication, the prognostic value of electrolyte imbalance has received little attention.

Methods: As a retrospective review, we screened inpatients with terminal cancer admitted between January 2017 and May 2019 to a single hospice-palliative care unit. Clinical characteristics and laboratory results were obtained from medical records for multivariable Cox regression analysis of independent prognostic factors.

Characteristics of medial condyle sagittal fracture of distal femur involving intercondylar notch in geriatric patients.

Introduction: Unicondylar femoral fractures are uncommon injuries, known to occur primarily in young people, with high energy trauma. However, according to our experiences, unicondylar femoral fractures in geriatric patients generally involved the medial femoral condyle, unlike previously reported. In addition, the fractures of medial femoral condyle (FMFC) showed a characteristic fracture pattern.

Association between D-Dimer Levels and the Prognosis of Terminal Cancer Patients in the Last Hours of Life.

Purpose: D-dimer levels are known to be associated with poor outcomes in patients with various cancers, but their significance at the end of life remains unclear. This study investigated D-dimer levels as a prognostic indicator for terminal cancer patients in the last hours of life.

Methods: The retrospective study was conducted at a palliative care unit of a tertiary cancer center, using a database to analyze the records of patients treated from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2018.

Depletion of ε-COP in the COPI Vesicular Coat Reduces Cleistothecium Production in Aspergillus nidulans.

We have previously isolated ε-COP, the α-COP interactor in COPI of Aspergillus nidulans, by yeast two-hybrid screening. To understand the function of ε-COP, the aneA (+) gene for ε-COP/AneA was deleted by homologous recombination using a gene-specific disruption cassette. Deletion of the ε-COP gene showed no detectable changes in vegetative growth or asexual development, but resulted in decrease in the production of the fruiting body, cleistothecium, under conditions favorable for sexual development.

Arthroscopic management of occult greater tuberosity fracture of the shoulder.

Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the early results of arthroscopic treatment in patients with missed occult greater tuberosity (GT) fracture of the humerus using the arthroscopic suture-bridge fixation technique.

Methods: Between January 2007 and August 2010, we used arthroscopic suture-bridge fixation in 15 cases of missed occult GT fractures, which were referred to our department with persistent symptoms following trauma, despite physical therapy.
