Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most common pathogen for young children hospitalized with bronchiolitis and pneumonia. Most infections occur below 1 year of age. RSV is also a significant viral pathogen for adults with respiratory tract infection.

Effect of diabetes and hyperglycaemia on the physical and mechanical properties of dentine: a systematic review.

Objectives: The aim of this systematic review was to assess the effect of DM (Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes) and hyperglycaemia on the physical and mechanical properties of dentine which is critical for successful endodontic treatment.

Method: An electronic search of the following databases: PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science and the grey literature was performed up until July 2024. In vitro and in vivo studies on the effect of DM or hyperglycaemia on the mechanical and physical properties of dentine were included.

A 0.73 dB Multi-Gain Low Noise Amplifier Design with Fast Mode-Switching for 5G/4G Applications.

In this paper, a sub-1dB Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) with several gain modes, including amplification and attenuation modes required for the fifth and fourth generations (5G/4G) of mobile network applications, is proposed. Its current consumption is adaptive for every gain mode and varies to lower currents for lower amplifications due to the importance of current consumption for mobile network applications. The proposed LNA features an innovative architecture with a three-core input structure supporting multi-gain modes, achieving high gain and ultra-low noise performance.

1.6-Inch Transparent Micro-Display with Pixel Circuit Integrated microLED Chip Array by Misalignment-Free Transfer.

Recent advances in mass transfer technology are expected to bring next-generation micro light-emitting diodes (µLED) displays into reality, although reliable integration of the active-matrix backplane with the transferred µLEDs remains as a challenge. Here, the µLED display technology is innovated by demonstrating pixel circuit-integrated micro-LEDs (PIMLEDs) and integrating them onto a transparent glass substrate. The PIMLED comprises of low-temperature poly-silicon transistors and GaN µLED.

Neurotoxic effects of citronellol induced by the conversion of kynurenine to 3-hydroxykynurenine.

Citronellol is widely utilized in consumer products, including cosmetics, fragrances, and household items. However, despite being considered a relatively safe chemical, the health effects and toxicity mechanisms associated with exposure to high concentrations of citronellol, based on product content, remain inadequately understood. Here, we aimed to analyze the neurological effects of citronellol in zebrafish larvae using behavioral and histological analyses and elucidate the mechanisms underlying its neurotoxicity in vivo.

Complete or incomplete revascularization in patients with left main culprit lesion acute myocardial infarction with multivessel disease: a retrospective observational study.

Background: Complete revascularization has demonstrated better outcomes in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and multivessel disease. However, in the case of left main (LM) culprit lesion AMI with multivessel disease, there is limited evidence to suggest that complete revascularization is better.

Methods: We reviewed 16,831 patients in the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry who were treated from July 2016 to June 2020, and 399 patients were enrolled with LM culprit lesion AMI treated with percutaneous coronary intervention.

Metamorphosis of Aged Women Into a Yokai () From the Viewpoint of Plastic Surgery and Gerontophobia.

The aim of this study is to analyze the transformation of aged women into yokai in Japanese literature, examining this metamorphosis from the perspectives of plastic surgery and gerontophobia. The Noh play "Adachigahara" explores the transformation of an outcast into a monstrous figure, highlighting how poverty, isolation, and aging can lead to a person's demonization, both metaphorically and literally. In "Rokujō no Miyasudokoro", Lady Rokujō's transformation into a vengeful spirit is tied to themes of aging, abandonment, and the societal devaluation of women as they grow older.

Why Cosmetic Surgery is Prevalent in Korea: A Perspective Grounded in Basic Values.

The aim of this review is to explore the reasons behind the prevalence of cosmetic surgery in Korea from the viewpoint of "basic values." In societies characterized by high levels of prejudice, the hierarchy of values from highest to lowest is as follows: (1) political, (2) economic, (3) religious, (4) social, (5) theoretical, and (6) aesthetic. Conversely, in societies with low levels of prejudice, the ranking of values from highest to lowest is: (1) aesthetic, (2) social, (3) religious, (4) theoretical, (5) economic, and (6) political.

Developing predictive models of user affective responses and a grading system for evaluating multi-crease patterns in foldable smartphones.

This study investigated the user affective (Kansei) evaluation of foldable smartphone creases. Twenty-five participants assessed twenty foldable smartphone display prototypes with various multi-crease patterns, for four affective dimensions (crease invisibility, flawlessness, luxuriousness and harmoniousness) using an 11-point rating scale, and, for overall goodness using a 7-point adjective-anchored scale. The adjectives for overall goodness evaluation represented different crease grade categories.

Beta-blockers after percutaneous coronary intervention for acute myocardial infarction and non-reduced left ventricular ejection fraction.

Background: Data on the clinical impact of beta-blockers (BBs) in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) who had non-reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) after percutaneous coronary intervention are limited.

Methods: From 2016 to 2020, we evaluated a cohort of 12,101 myocardial infarction patients with a non-reduced LVEF (≥40%) from the Korean Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry V. Patients were divided into two groups based on their BB (carvedilol, bisoprolol, or nebivolol) treatment at discharge: with beta-blocker treatment (BB,  = 9,468) and without beta-blocker treatment (non-BB,  = 2,633).

The aim of this study was to analyze "The House of the Sleeping Beauties" (れる) by Yasunari Kawabata from the perspectives of plastic surgery, and psychiatry/psychology. The central theme of the novel focuses on aging, desire, and the human connection to beauty and mortality. The protagonist, Eguchi, frequents a brothel where elderly men lie next to young women who are drugged and remain unconscious.

Clinical characteristics of toxoplasmosis patients in Korea: A retrospective study using health insurance review and assessment service data and electronic medical records.

This study aimed to elucidate the clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed with toxoplasmosis in Korea. We collected and analyzed the specific research data of 5,917 patients from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment (HIRA; 2007-2020) and 533 electronic medical records (EMRs; 2003-2021) of Korean patients. The HIRA data showed that toxoplasmosis is an endemic disease that occurs constantly in Korea, with a large proportion of patients complaining of ocular symptoms.

The thalamus encodes and updates context representations during hierarchical cognitive control.

Cognitive flexibility relies on hierarchically structured task representations that organize task contexts, relevant environmental features, and subordinate decisions. Despite ongoing interest in the human thalamus, its role in cognitive control has been understudied. This study explored thalamic representation and thalamocortical interactions that contribute to hierarchical cognitive control in humans.

Generation of Quaternary Carbons in Cycloalkanones and Lactones with Arynes through a Domino Process.

A synthetic method was developed for the generation of a quaternary carbon center in carbonyl compounds. This innovative process involved the reaction of α-thiolate lactones and cycloalkanones with two equivalents of arynes in acetonitrile to give α,α-diarylated products in 63-85% yields at 25 °C. The reaction unfolds through an unconventional domino process, encompassing sequential 1,2-elimination, 1,2-nucleophilic addition, 1,4-proton transfer, the second 1,2-nucleophilic addition, interrupted Pummerer rearrangement, intramolecular spirocyclization, and sulfonium ring-opening.

The aim of this study was to analyze facial bone fractures at the Armed Forces Capital Hospital of Korea (AFCH) from 2013 to 2022. This review included individuals who visited AFCH for treatment. The inclusion criteria for the study were fractures resulting from external trauma, specifically coded as S02.

In this paper, the authors aim to explore the reasons behind human makeup from both medical and literary perspectives. In a PubMed search for "makeup and cosmetics," 509 titles were identified. Of these, 64 abstracts were reviewed, and ultimately, 8 full texts were referenced.

Prone to Stones?: Evaluating the association between food insecurity, psychiatric comorbidity, and pediatric stone management.

Introduction: Pediatric stone disease incidence has increased steadily over the last few decades. Several interrelated factors have been proposed to contribute to these epidemiologic trends including increased ambient temperature, body habitus, and food insecurity.

Objective: Given the significant cohort of children living with food insecurity in the United States, the aim of this study is to explore the relationship between food desert residence and obstructing stone disease resulting in surgical intervention in a cohort of pediatric patients.
