Lung cancer has the highest mortality rate of all cancers worldwide. Conserving the immune system and reducing the adverse events associated with cancer treatment have become increasingly important. Our study aimed to investigate the immunological effects of herbal medicine (HM) alone, independent of conventional cancer therapies, in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Lung cancer, especially non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), poses a significant health challenge globally due to its high mortality. Afatinib, a second-generation epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI), has shown superior efficacy over traditional chemotherapy in NSCLC treatment. However, issues like secondary resistance and adverse effects call for alternative therapies.

This trait has traditionally been used for cold-heat pattern identification to understand the inherent physical characteristics, which are influenced by genetic factors, of an individual. However, genome-wide association studies (GWASs) on this trait are limited.

Traditional herbal medicine (THM) has emerged as a potential adjuvant therapy to enhance cancer treatment by reducing side effects and bolstering the immune response. This study conducted a meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of THM as an adjuvant therapy in post-surgical gastric cancer patients.

Nutmeg seeds contain alkylbenzene derivatives such as myristicin, which are toxic to the human organism, and lignan compounds such as nectandrin B, which possess anti-aging and anti-diabetic properties. However, the anti-adipogenic, prolipolytic and anti-inflammatory effects of lignan-enriched nutmeg extract (LNX) on preadipocytes remain unclear.

In this study, researchers compared the untargeted compound profiles before and after erlotinib administration to observe changes in blood metabolites in NSCLC patients. The levels of 1005 substances changed after taking erlotinib.

We divided patients into 2 groups based on how long they had been receiving TKM oncotherapy and compared event-free survival (EFS), telomere length change, and quality of life (QoL). The study collected data on 83 patients from October 2016 to June 2020 and discovered no statistical differences in EFS based on the duration of TKM oncotherapy.

MT may reduce anxiety by reducing the concentrations of proinflammatory cytokines. The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of MT on anxiety and cytokine levels in patients with cancer.

Strategies to overcome the resistance are required in treatment for advanced lung cancer. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic effect of afatinib and HangAmDan-B1 (HAD-B1) co-administration in gefitinib-resistant NSCLC using HCC827-GR, NSCLC cell line with gefitinib resistance, and the HCC827-GR cell implanted mouse model.

Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) is one of the most serious side effects of chemotherapy. Because the current CINV treatment option has several flaws, alternative treatment options are required.

This paper aims to identify and analyse the proteins in common venomous snakes, such as () and (), in Korea.
Methods: We used mass spectrometry, electrophoresis, N-terminal sequencing and in-gel digestion to analyse the proteins in these two snake venoms.
Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and Korea is no exception. Humanity has been fighting cancer for many years, and as a result, we now have effective treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. However, there are other issues that we are only now beginning to address, such as cancer patients' quality of life.

Herein we assessed acute and sub-chronic toxicity of HAD-B1 in beagle dogs. Acute study, 4 weeks dose rate finding (DRF) study and sub chronic toxicity study for 13 weeks were done by oral administration at doses of 0, 500, 1000, and 2000 mg/kg.

Our aim was to study the effect of whole ginseng, enriched in the anti-tumoral Rh2 component and other ginsenosides (Ginseng Rh2+), on the metastatic capacity of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: We evaluated the effects of Ginseng Rh2+ on survival, migration and motility, induction of apoptosis, and expression of its apoptosis-related proteins in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells in vitro and on primary tumor growth and metastatic capacity in a syngeneic mouse lung cancer model in vivo.

Background: Afatinib is an epidermal growth factor receptor - tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) with proven efficacy for treating patients with advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Unfortunately, responses are limited by acquired resistance. Because traditional Korean medicine may have synergistic effects when combined with chemotherapy or radiotherapy, the aim of our study is to elucidate the efficacy and safety of afatinib plus HangAmDan-B1 (HAD-B1) combination therapy in the treatment of patients with NSCLC, as well as EGFR mutations, who need afatinib therapy.

The purpose of this study was to assess changes in perceived cognitive function from pre-surgery to 1 month post-surgery and to determine whether cognitive function predicted health-related quality of life in women who awaited adjuvant treatment for breast cancer.
Methods: This study used a descriptive pre-post design to assess women newly diagnosed with breast cancer prior to any treatment (N = 132).
Docetaxel, a chemotherapeutic agent used to treat breast cancer, produces a robust painful neuropathy that is aggravated by mechanical and thermal stimuli. This study was undertaken to investigate the analgesic effects of electrical stimulation on docetaxel-induced neuropathic pain in mice and to identify associated changes in ultrasound vocalizations. Peripheral neuropathy was induced with intraperitoneally injected docetaxel (5 mg/kg) on 3 times every 2 days in male ICR mice.
