Left ventricular systolic function is reduced during episodes of silent ischemia in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) is increased at least 5 absolute percent during exercise in most normal subjects; however, in patients with CAD, LVEF often remains unchanged or decreases. The anti-ischemic effect of beta-adrenergic receptor blockade is well documented, including a reduction of exercise-induced electrocardiographic ST depressions; however, the effect of these drugs on left ventricular volume changes during exercise in patients with silent ischemia is unknown.

After prompt injection of 99mTc-sestamibi, subsequent scintigraphic imaging of perfused myocardium can be performed. During a 5-month period, 237 patients were admitted to the coronary care unit of a district hospital on suspicion of acute ischaemic syndrome, and injection of 99mTc-sestamibi for the performance of myocardial scintigraphy was carried out in 134 patients, on average 2 h after onset of symptoms.

A material of 123 patients with suspected or verified recurrence of cancer of the breast was submitted to a programme of investigation consisting of conventional X-ray survey of the axial skeleton and thorax, bone tissue scintigraphy, bone marrow scintigraphy, bone biopsy and aspiration of marrow and blood status including serum alkaline phosphatase. 54% and 29% of the patients had bone, metastases as assessed radiographically and by biopsy, respectively.

Most of our knowledge of this reservoir function of the spleen derives from animal studies, and the splenic contribution to the circulating blood volume in humans has been regarded as unimportant. We recorded the erythrocyte content in the human spleen during graded bicycle exercise to maximal working capacity.

Colonoscopy and biopsy were used as reference. Scintigrams taken 1 h and 3 h after leucocyte reinjection were evaluated blindly by two independent observer groups.

Planar scintigraphy was performed after death. Slices of the hearts after autopsy were analyzed for scintigraphic and pathoanatomic abnormalities.

In order to evaluate the reproducibility of the diagnosis of solitary cold thyroid lesions, two specialists in nuclear medicine and two specialists in endocrinology independently twice read 240 thyroid 99mTc pertechnetate scintigrams. No significant difference or interaction between the results obtained from the right and the left lobe was found. A solitary cold lesion was diagnosed in 100 of the 480 lobes; however, in only 30 did all four observers agree upon the diagnosis.

Gastric emptying of both forms followed an exponential model. Marked day to day variation of gastric emptying was noted with a coefficient of variation of approximately 0.

No significant differences were found in fractional share between the two kidneys, time to maximal activity, residual activity at 20 and 30 min, or rate of emptying after furosemide administration.

These cysts are rare: approximately one par 130,000 somatic admissions. Mesenteric cysts may be encountered along the entire gastro-intestinal canal from the duodenum to the rectum but are, however, most frequent in the mesentery of the small intestine.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA new noninvasive method for scintigraphic demonstration of the anatomic localization and function of the thoracic duct is described. Seven volunteers ingested 123I-heptadecanoic acid; approximately one hour later the entire thoracic duct was demonstrated and correspondingly a sharp rise in the plasma appearance rate of radioactivity was recorded. The method is simple and without side effects.

The positioning of the detectors turned out to be satisfactory in 83 per cent of the patients when compared with the determination of the split function at scintigraphy. This might be explained by the small 100 per cent isocount area of the probe (avoiding the effect of mobile kidneys) and by the 4-channel localization system.
