Background: Poor oral health has been a persistent problem in nursing home residents for decades, with severe consequences for residents and the health care system. Two major barriers to providing appropriate oral care are residents' responsive behaviors to oral care and residents' lack of ability or motivation to perform oral care on their own.

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of strategies that nursing home care providers can apply to either prevent/overcome residents' responsive behaviors to oral care, or enable/motivate residents to perform their own oral care.

Lipids are a diverse class of hydrophobic and amphiphilic molecules which make up the bulk of most biological systems and are essential for human life. The role of lipids in health and disease has been recognized for many decades, as evidenced by the early identification of cholesterol as an important risk factor of heart disease and the development and introduction of statins as a one of the most successful therapeutic interventions to date. While several studies have demonstrated an increased risk of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), in those with diabetes mellitus, the nature of this risk is not well understood.

NA1 is an anaerobic archaeon usually found in a deep-sea hydrothermal vent area, which can use elemental sulfur (S) as a terminal electron acceptor for energy. Sulfur, essential to many biomolecules such as sulfur-containing amino acids and cofactors including iron-sulfur cluster, is usually mobilized from cysteine by the pyridoxal 5'-phosphate- (PLP-) dependent enzyme of cysteine desulfurase (CDS). We determined the crystal structures of CDS from NA1 (ToCDS), which include native internal aldimine (NAT), gem-diamine (GD) with alanine, internal aldimine structure with existing alanine (IAA), and internal aldimine with persulfide-bound Cys356 (PSF) structures.

Heteroaggregation of graphene oxide (GO) with nanometer- and micrometer-sized hematite colloids, which are naturally present in aquatic systems, is investigated in this study. The heteroaggregation rates between GO and hematite nanoparticles (HemNPs) were quantified by dynamic light scattering, while the heteroaggregation between GO and micrometer-sized hematite particles (HemMPs) was examined through batch adsorption and sedimentation experiments. The heteroaggregation rates of GO with HemNPs first increased and then decreased with increasing GO/HemNP mass concentration ratios.

Uniform and large-area synthesis of bulk insulating ultrathin films is an important subject toward applications of a surface of three-dimensional topological insulators (3D-TIs) in various electronic devices. Here we report epitaxial growth of bulk insulating three-dimensional topological insulator (3D-TI) BiSbTeSe (BSTS) ultrathin films, ranging from a few quintuple to several hundreds of layers, on mica in a large-area (1 cm) via catalyst-free physical vapor deposition. These films can nondestructively be exfoliated using deionized water and transferred to various kinds of substrates as desired.

Background: Asian subjects are at increased cardio-metabolic risk at comparatively lower body mass index (BMI) compared with white subjects. Sympathetic nervous system activation and dyslipidemia, both characteristics of increased adiposity, appear to be related. It is unclear whether these alterations are a secondary consequence of illness state, or if phospholipids and illness risk overlap genetically.
