Diagnostic challenges of arboviral infections and dengue virus serotype distribution in febrile patients in East Java, Indonesia.

Objectives: Arboviruses pose significant public health threats worldwide, with Southeast Asia being a hotspot for these infections. This study aimed to reassess the incidence of dengue, Zika, and chikungunya viruses in patients clinically diagnosed with dengue in East Java, Indonesia in 2023.

Methods: The study included 108 patients admitted to hospitals in Jember, with blood samples collected on admission.

Correlation between common iliac vein geometry and the risk of deep vein thrombosis in patients with May-Thurner syndrome.

Background: May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) is a continuous pathological change of the left common iliac vein intraluminal wall due to compression between the right common iliac artery and a lumbar vertebra, with clinical signs of compromised venous drainage of the left leg, which eventually leads to development of left-sided deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Purpose: To analyze the correlation between iliac vessel geometry and probability of DVT in patients with MTS.

Material And Methods: This study consists of two age-matched female groups: DVT (n = 21) and control (n = 28).

Design and Synthesis of Novel β-Carboline-Bisindole Hybrids as Potential Anticancer Agents.

We are reporting a short and convenient pathway for the synthesis of novel β-carboline-bisindole hybrid compounds from relatively cheap and commercially available chemicals such as tryptamine, dialdehydes and indoles. These newly designed compounds can also be prepared in high yields with the tolerance of many functional groups under mild conditions. Notably, these β-carboline-bisindole hybrid compounds exhibited some promising applications as anticancer agents against the three common cancer cell lines MCF-7 (breast cancer), SK-LU-1 (lung cancer), and HepG2 (liver cancer).

Outcome and toxicity of chemoradiation using volumetric modulated arc therapy followed by 3D image-guided brachytherapy for cervical cancer: Vietnam National Cancer Hospital experience.

Background: Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) and 3D image-guided brachytherapy (3D-IGBT) have recently been introduced in Vietnam for the treatment of locally advanced cervical cancer. This study aims to assess the outcomes and toxicities of chemoradiation using VMAT followed by 3D-IGBT in Vietnamese cervical cancer patients.

Materials And Methods: A prospective interventional study on 72 patients with 2018 International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage IB3-IIIC2 disease who underwent concurrent chemoradiation using VMAT, followed by 3D-IGBT according to EMBRACE-II protocol.

Efficacy of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery Program for Patients Undergoing Lobectomy for Lung Cancer: A Scoping Review and Single-Center Initial Result in Vietnam.

Surgery for lung cancer can be invasive and the recovery process is often slow with many complications. To address this, the enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) program aims to minimize adverse clinical events for surgical patients. This is achieved through a multimodal perioperative care protocol that aims to preserve preoperative organ function and reduce postoperative complications.

The effect of single-implant overdentures on cognitive function in older adults: A 3-year follow-up report.

Objective: To investigate the occurrence of mild cognitive impairment in edentulous patients up to 3 years after they received single-implant overdentures (1-IODs).

Methods: This was a follow-up study for a crossover randomized controlled trial comparing 1-IODs and conventional complete dentures, with patient satisfaction as the primary outcome. In the present study, the cognitive function of the patients, measured with the Japanese version of the Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA-J), was evaluated as the secondary outcome at baseline and 2 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years after 1-IOD placement.

Effect of Oxidized β-Carotene on Swine Growth Performance under Commercial Production Conditions in Vietnam.

The effects of oxidized β-carotene (OxBC) were determined upon the growth performance of swine through their full growth cycle under commercial production conditions in Vietnam. Five hundred 28-day-old-weaned barrows and gilts were used in a 140-day complete wean-to-finish feeding trial. Animals were randomized by weight, and each pen contained 20 pigs with the same ratio of barrows to gilts.

Agallochin P, a new diterpene from Vietnamese mangrove L.

A new diterpene () along with eight known compounds (-) were isolated from leaves. The structure and relative configuration of new compound were established on the basis of spectroscopic data analysis and confirmed by NMR chemical shifts calculation with DP4+ probability. Cytotoxicity of the isolated compounds were also evaluated.

A Novel Herbal Medicine for Dyslipidemia: Assessments in Experimental Models.

Dyslipidemia substantially contributes to the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The polyherbal formulation has been a traditional therapeutic strategy used to treat dyslipidemia. The radical scavenging activity of abietane diterpenoids: Theoretical insights.

Salvia species are frequently used in traditional medicine and are a source of diterpenoid antioxidants. In this study, the hydroperoxide radical scavenging activity of seven known abietane diterpenoids (ADs), isolated from Salvia barrelieri, are investigated using a quantum chemical approach. The ADs are 7-oxoroyleanone-12-methyl ether (1), 7a-acetoxyroyleanone-12-methyl ether (2), royleanone (3), horminone (4), 7-acetylhorminone (5), cryptojaponol (6), and inuroyleanol (7).

Molecular surveillance and temporal monitoring of malaria parasites in focal Vietnamese provinces.

Background: While the World Health Organization (WHO) Southeast Asia region has the second highest incidence of malaria worldwide, malaria in Vietnam is focal to few provinces, where delayed parasite clearance to anti-malarial drugs is documented. This study aims to understand Plasmodium species distribution and the genetic diversity of msp1 and msp2 of parasite populations using molecular tools.

A Computational Study on the Redox Reactions of Ammonia and Methylamine with Nitrogen Tetroxide.

The redox reactions of NH and CHNH with NO (NTO) have been studied by ab initio molecular orbital (MO) calculations at the UCCSD(T)∥UB3LYP/6-311+G(3df,2p) level of theory. These reactions are related to the well-known NTO-hydrazine(s) propellant systems. On the basis of the predicted potential energy surfaces, the mechanisms for these reactions were found to be similar to the hydrolysis of NTO and the hypergolic initiation reaction of the NTO-NH mixture, primarily controlled by the conversion of NTO to ONONO via very loose transition states (with NH and CHNH as spectators in the collision complexes) followed by the rapid attack of ONONO at the spectating molecules producing HNO and RNO (R = NH and CHNH).

Methods: A retrospective study was performed on 60 patients (47 men and 13 women), who had clinical manifestations of BPI, underwent 3T MRI of the brachial plexus, and were surgically treated at the Viet Duc and Vinmec Times City hospitals, in Hanoi, Vietnam, from March 2016 to December 2019. A thermodynamic and kinetic study of the antioxidant activity of natural hydroanthraquinones.

Novel hydroanthraquinones isolated from marine algal-derived endophytic fungus EN-501 exhibited promising antioxidant properties in preliminary studies, raising the prospect of adapting these compounds for therapeutic use in diseases caused by oxidative stress. For medicinal applications it is beneficial to develop a full understanding of the antioxidant activity of these compounds. In this study, the hydroperoxide radical scavenging activity of five natural hydroanthraquinones was evaluated by kinetic and thermodynamic calculations.
