The aim of this study is to assess the spatiotemporal variation, sources, and health impacts of the carbonyl compounds (carbonyls) in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), the third-most populous city in Southeast Asia. Sampling was conducted according to the US.EPA Method TO-11A, from 2012 to 2016 in both the dry and the rainy seasons at twelve sites.

Alterations in signaling pathways and modulation of cell metabolism are associated with the pathogenesis of cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Small ubiquitin-like modifier (SUMO) proteins and NF-κB family play major roles in various cellular processes. The current study aims to determine the expression profile of SUMO and NF-κB genes in HCC tumors and investigate their association with the clinical outcome of HCC.

Surgical treatment of a giant paraophthalmic aneurysm postfailed flow diversion through endoscopic endonasal approach: Technical nuances and review of the literature.

Background: Giant internal carotid artery (ICA) aneurysms are usually treated through flow diversion, coiling, or a combination of both. However, certain cases that fail the endovascular treatment pose a technical challenge.

Case Description: A 68-year-old male presented with gradual visual changes affecting his right eye and was found to have a giant unruptured right paraophthalmic aneurysm.

Enhanced photoreduction efficiency of Cr(VI) driven by visible light in a new Zr-based metal-organic framework modified by hydroxyl groups.

While metal-organic framework (MOF) photocatalysts have demonstrated a unique Cr(VI) photoreduction capability in recent decades, their performance is still insufficient for practical applications because of their low Cr(VI) uptake and poor visible light response. To cope with these drawbacks, a new OH-modified Zr-based MOF, termed HCMUE-1, was successfully prepared a solvothermal method in this work. The complete characterization of HCMUE-1 was performed through various techniques, including powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry (TGA-DSC), scanning electron microscopy combined with energy-dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).

Epilepsy self-management mobile health application: A needs assessment in people with epilepsy and caregivers in Viet Nam.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine (1) the needsof Vietnamese people with epilepsy (PWE) and their caregivers for self-management mobile health applications and (2) the self-management features expected to be included in an application.

Methods: The survey consisted of an anonymous self-administered questionnaire that was distributed to PWE and caregivers from the age of 18 in Vietnam through online platforms and onsite at Nguyen Tri Phuong Hospital and University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City, from February 2022 to May 2022. The questionnaire assessed the participants' attitudes toward epilepsy self-management mobile applications, their willingness to use applications, and their expectations of the contents of an application.

Multifocal fatty liver nodules mimicking a metastatic disease: A case report.

Multifocal fatty liver nodules can present a diagnostic challenge due to their resemblance to metastatic liver disease. This case report illustrates the complexity of such scenarios through the presentation of a middle-aged male patient. Despite the common nature of fatty liver disease, characterized by hepatocyte fat accumulation leading to diffuse and uniform liver lesions, rare instances exhibit heterogeneous appearances.

Acute edematous pancreatitis caused by infection: A rare case report.

Acute edematous pancreatitis is a medical emergency characterized by a sudden pancreas inflammation. It can be caused by various factors, primarily gallstones, alcohol consumption, or medication. Acute edematous pancreatitis caused by infection is exceptionally rare and could be overlooked.

External carotid artery-radial artery-vertebral artery bypass for surgical treatment of radiculopathy caused by an extracranial vertebral artery aneurysm: A case report and review of the literature.

Background: Vertebral artery (VA) aneurysm is a rare etiology of cervical radiculopathy and there is a paucity of case reports described in the literature.

Case Description: We describe a case of a patient with no history of trauma presenting with a large right VA aneurysm at the C5-C6 level compressing the C6 nerve root and causing a painful radiculopathy. The patient underwent successful external carotid artery-radial artery-VA bypass followed by trapping of the aneurysm and decompression of the C6 nerve root.

Evaluating major anthropogenic VOC emission sources in densely populated Vietnamese cities.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) play an important role in urban air pollution, both as primary pollutants and through their contribution to the formation of secondary pollutants, such as tropospheric ozone and secondary organic aerosols. In this study, more than 30 VOC species were continuously monitored in the two most populous cities in Vietnam, namely Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC, September-October 2018 and March 2019) and Hanoi (March 2019). In parallel with ambient VOC sampling, grab sampling was used to target the most prevalent regional-specific emission sources and estimate their emission factors (EFs).

Endoscopic Endonasal Transodontoid Treatment of a Ruptured Anterior Spinal Artery Aneurysm.

Isolated spinal artery aneurysms are a rare cause of intracranial subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). A 49-year-old female presented with severe headache. Initial imaging showed SAH and intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH), but no clear source of bleeding was identified.

Insulin Resistance in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and Its Association With Anthropometric Fetal Indices.

Background: In pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), insulin resistance (IR) increases the risk of developing manifest type 2 diabetes mellitus and is associated with complications in both mother and fetus.

Objectives: This research aimed to evaluate the associations between IR evaluated by 3 indices (namely updated homeostasis model assessment model (HOMA2), QUICKI, and McAuley's index) and the diabetes risk factors and the fetal growth indices in Vietnamese women with GDM.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 370 women with GDM and 40 healthy pregnant women from January 2015 to May 2019.

Background: Depression is a common mental disorder in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Depression and T2DM have a reciprocal interaction through many factors, of which the most important is the multifactorial control and microvascular complications of T2DM.

Aim: This research aims to determine the rate of depression and the association between depression and multifactorial control and microvascular complications in patients with T2DM aged 30-60 years in Vietnam.

A Case Report of Fournier's Gangrene.

Unlabelled: Early identification and intervention of Fournier's gangrene in the Emergency Department (ED) requires a high index of suspicion and is critical in improved patient outcomes. We present a case of a 64-year-old male with two months of progressively worsening buttock and rectal pain found to have extensive black eschar and ecchymosis on exam. In addition, this patient displayed marked leukocytosis, lactic acidosis, and elevated inflammatory markers.

The efficacy of bactrim in reducing surgical site infections after spine surgery.

Background: Previous studies show an increasing incidence of gram-negative organisms in surgical site infections after spine surgery. This study is looking for the association of the post-operative prophylactic use of Bactrim and the gram-negative surgical site infection after lumbar spine surgery.

Methods: Patients who underwent lumbar spine surgery between August 2010 and December 2019 at the institution were retrospectively reviewed.

First Report of Fulminant Budd-Chiari Syndrome Treated by Direct Intrahepatic Portocaval Shunt in Vietnam.

Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) is a rare disorder caused by hepatic venous outflow obstruction that can lead to acute liver failure proposing liver transplantation or transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt. However, the transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt is not always successful due to the entire hepatic vein thrombosis while transplantation is not unfailingly feasible. In these situations, the direct intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (DIPS) is a viable alternative that may ameliorate portal hypertension in these patients.

An Anomalous Cause of Deep Venous Thrombosis: A Case Report.

Introduction: Lower extremity deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a common diagnosis in the emergency department (ED). Deep venous thromboses can be the result of anatomical variation in the vasculature that predisposes the patient to thrombosis. May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) is one such anatomic variant defined by extrinsic compression of the left common iliac vein between the right common iliac artery and lumbar vertebrae.

Posterior wiring methods have been largely replaced with segmental constructs using the C1 lateral mass, C1 pedicle, C2 pars, and C2 pedicle. A novel technique for sacropelvic fixation using image-guided sacroiliac screws: a case series and biomechanical study.

In this study, we sought to assess the safety and accuracy of sacropelvic fixation performed with image-guided sacroiliac screw placement using postoperative computed tomography and X-rays. The sacroiliac screws were placed with navigation in five patients. Intact specimens were mounted onto a six-degrees-of-freedom spine motion simulator.

Endoscopic and Gravity-Assisted Resection of Medial Temporo-occipital Lesions Through a Supracerebellar Transtentorial Approach: Technical Notes With Case Illustrations.

Background: Traditional approaches to medial temporo-occipital intra-axial brain tumors carry the risk of visual or language deficits related to brain retraction or transgression of deep fiber tracts. To reduce these risks, the microscopic supracerebellar transtentorial approach with the patient in the sitting position has been previously described for lesions in relative proximity to the tentorium.

Objective: We describe this approach performed with endoscopic tumor resection to allow better visualization and a more ergonomic operating position.

To describe the indications, technical nuances, and techniques for complication avoidance for the supraorbital keyhole approach with endoscopic assistance. The supraorbital eyebrow craniotomy provides minimally invasive access to a wide range of frontal fossa, parasellar, and some middle and posterior fossae tumors. This approach is considered ideal for removal of many, if not most, planum and tuberculum sellae meningiomas, some olfactory groove meningiomas, and suprasellar craniopharyngiomas, particularly tumors with far lateral extensions.
