Background/purpose: Metastatic hepatoblastoma continues to pose a significant treatment challenge, primarily because the precise mechanisms involved in metastasis are not fully understood, making cell lines and preclinical models that depict the progression of disease and metastasis-related biology paramount. The associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for a staged hepatectomy (ALPPS) procedure is an excellent treatment strategy for patients with advanced primary or metastatic liver cancer and small liver remnants. This report discusses the surgical management of a 51-year-old male who was diagnosed with stage IV rectal cancer with multiple heterogeneous hypoenhancing solid masses seen in both lobes of the liver consistent with metastatic disease. He completed six cycles of preoperative FOLFOX chemotherapy with Avastin.

In 2016, unintentional injuries became the third leading cause of death in the United States. In 2018, 54% of 103 672 unintentional injury deaths were due to drug overdoses among adults 19 to 64 years of age. In Georgia, opioid overdose deaths continued to increase, despite a 2014 state law for naloxone use to prevent deaths, and a 2017 amendment for more widespread community use without a prescription.
